First things first
Salvaging the hours left on the weekend, these are the things that I must do today:- (Hotmail is down almost permanently, and I heard Yahoo mail is down from campus too. Gmail still works, and I can't update my anti-virus definitions, but I also think I don't have time to formally lodge a complain.)
-Brush, bathe and wash-up
-Single helping of lunch
-Download the EE2006 software, install
-Copy down EE2006 notes again and again by hand
-Finish all EE2006 tutorials
-Program like mad using EE2006 software
Let's hope it works! =)

Working on short deadlines
Oh, and yet another week have come to an end. This is really sad, considering I really really have 4 weeks (28 days) to my first paper. Everything I do now have a bearing on how this semester is going to turn out. As it stands, I didn't even have time to clean up my place since the mid-term break. Once again, I wonder if my stand of taking 6 modules a semester was a correct one. Some people call it overloading. I thought it was just nice, discounting the fact that I am currently struggling all over again. I started the semester strong wanting to get A's in everything. What can I say, the mind is willing but the flesh is weak. Maybe the flesh is willing but the mind is weak? Still no go.
What did I do when I woke up on Wednesday? It was my free day, but it wasn't really a free day. I had a project meeting in the morning. All psyched up to write as much as possible before the project meeting. The previous post was partially to get me into writing mode. I wrote quite a bit! The unfortunate thing was, I fell asleep just before 7 o' clock and I was supposed to meet them at 9a.m.. As much as I didn't want to believe it, it was nature's attempt at making me realize that time and energy is limited. I am still young right? I think I'll conquer it next time. Next time I woke up was 10.46a.m. because of a phone call from Kim Seng. Have headache too, and technically I had less than 4 hours of sleep. By the time I reach there, they are going to finish already? Hopefully they were productive as well. Oh well, they were still waiting for me so I have to go.
I spend the whole afternoon writing our part with Kim Seng. As much as I do not like the way the paper is going, I am glad that it is going some other way. Maybe what I see isn't the real thing. Maybe someone else is more correct, and I just have to bet on that. After all, at least someone is doing something. I skipped my Maths lab. Then on my way home, even though I had very little sleep, I realized I am mobile. I have my laptop and bag with me, and so I can set up shop anywhere! This is great, and the room next to the lounge was almost empty, with only three people there. I managed to get myself a cosy corner, get the air-cond to blow straight at me, and a-ok internet connection. I still get disconnected very often, and with lack of patience it can simply drive me crazy. Luckily, Wai Hong is an animal of patience, and persevered.
The highlight of the evening was that I managed to complete a CS1101C lab. Actually I think I managed to complete it on time, while racing with a friend. Of course I would win, but the question was by how much a margin. However, I run into a small boundary problem, which I thought about during dinner. It was like magic, and I suddenly I found revelation. I went back to change a line of code and it worked! Basic logic mistakes can have far-reaching consequences. However, if you include the time where I thought for it during dinner, I actually didn't finish on time. Nevertheless, I wish them happy programming. =) I did help with their programs a little. =)
By then I was very very extremely tired. I went home and slept! =) Before 12. =) It was one of those days where I could not take it anymore again. My bones felt like breaking again, and I think I couldn't have lasted another extra hour anyway. Since I slept early, I felt like waking up early to study for my Lab 8 after managing Lab 7. The confidence level was extremely high since I managed to tackle a somewhat difficult lab. My energy however, could not keep up with my confidence. I didn't manage to wake up in the morning. Actually I managed to, but I was too extremely tired. Besides, there isn't much time left by the time I woke up. I need the lab marks to make it. In the end, decided to skip my SSB tutorial/lecture/everything that happens only once a week, to study for my lab. That also concluded my perfect attendance from that module, and I think it was the last module to which I have perfect attendance. Wai Hong is going downhill once again.
I snoozed my alarm and next time I woke up was already 11 o' clock. Darn it. It's time to go. Copied as much of my own codes as possible onto paper as it was open book, and I didn't want to lose out just because I have to recode from scratch. In the end, even though lab was about to start, I was still frantically copying code. Got to the lab around 30 minutes late. Woo, the lab assistant was someone whom I played basketball with last week. We smiled at each other. =) The last time we met, I rejected/blocked his shot just before the lights went off. I must admit, it did feel good. Besides, he looked younger than me, how can he be the lab assistant? I then also concluded, if he can do it, I can too!
Woah, the question was sadistic actually. For a person like me who had limited time to do revision, it would kill me off instantly. I require very in-depth understanding to the topic. Oh no, it kind of killed me off. I guess the practical exam is going to be something of that sort too, not just examining your coding ability. Coding ability comes from practice, but in-depth understanding of a very small particular part of code comes from mugging. I am afraid I don't have both. I am optimistic, but yet at the same time, humble? Or just being a realist for a moment? Feeling bad, but I had a lot of sleep, so for once in a lifetime, my 2 hour break on a Thursday was not used for a nap. Was extremely hungry too, so I went to Arts canteen for my weekly Thursday double helping treat.
It was great, the first plate, so I went back for another, though I really wanted to control myself and eat only a single helping. After buying the second plate, I almost couldn't find a place to sit. Luckily my quick feet managed to get myself a table when someone left theirs. Sometimes, it is depressing to see a table that looks empty but when you go very near, you see a very small tiny bag on one of the chairs, and sigh, it's occupied. Worse, you see a few tables like that in a row. Anyway, as I was enjoying my second plate halfway, Jia Ling came and joined me for lunch. =) I don't know if it was good or bad, but she had no idea I wasn't in class in the morning. =)
Then we went to the library to use computer after a long chat. I managed to complete my first ever Maths question on my own in University that I was 100% sure that was the answer. My matrix does rock. I was surprised how easy it was. It was definitely a great moral victory. Until today, I still think that if I do not reform, I am going to fail three modules. EE2005, EE2006 and MA1506 (again!). This sort of gave me hope and light again. Went for the lecture a little late because I was running errand for Angel, but hey, I understood all that was being said and taught. Win. I even dared to ask my lecturer for consultation time. Double damage. I felt so good. Maybe I am not that shameful of myself anymore.
Then I decided I wanted to get back for a shower because the errand had left me a little sweaty. However, due to a lack of coordination and time awareness. I realized it was already 6 p.m. when I reached my PGP bus stop. Sigh, going back would incur a possible 20 minutes, and missing more than half of the tutorial despite being there for a lecture earlier. Sigh. Feeling good with myself though, I went home and bathed. I wanted to go for Christmas night and see some of my juniors off, as it was last day of school for them. I got the information while writing my part of the report with Kim Seng. I was feeding mosquito, and both Reaksmey and Michael walked past. Caught up with some of the old times stuff.
Then I was too lazy, and couldn't concentrate on work too. Besides, that would mean I haven't played basketball for one whole week. I need some exercise. Went down and had a great time. Jumped high, played hard, not too much pain. Just got some scratches everywhere but it was ok. In fact, was looking forward to meet my lab assistant if he goes to play. All my shots were memorable. They left a deep impression on myself. It was as if you got the perfect feel. I made minimal mistakes too. Even after that when I went to bed, I couldn't fall asleep thinking about all the shots I made that night. We even played against a group with 3 person all taller than us and are good players. I switched with Da Hua on one possession after being screened, and the shooter thought he was open. =) I slapped the ball away shortly after release and it landed straight on Da Hua's hand. =) Then it's our possesion. =) Adrenaline pumping. Felt really good too. =) Another one was a quick catch a pass, fake left but turn right lay-up. Yet another one was a left quickstep and a left handed dribble, a short hop and laying it in with the right hand. The push in in front of the basket felt good too. Saw Michael and Indonesian gang playing basketball but they were already playing last game. Oh well, blame my laziness.
I'm afraid I played too hard. I finally realized why I could never really do work and be productive on Thursday and Fridays. It's because I am both mentally and physically tired. I'll also break easier when tired. It's because I am always playing too hard at basketball on Wednesday night. Sigh, but I thought exercise makes you more active? It also stimulated my sweat glands to work extra hard. It's very uncomfortable now. I sweat super easily. I guess I am still suffering from afterburn, and my body is still accustomed to doing heavy work. How do I cure this? I really need air-con. It is very very uncomfortable. This is another reason why I think I cannot do work. I am never really in comfort, even though I call this my heaven. I was hoping this rainy season the weather would be better.
Recently, I always wake every two hours because it's really uncomfortable. I can't leave my door open when I sleep definitely. I can't leave my curtains open too, for the morning sun will catch me and I'll wake up anyway. I can't leave my windows wide open, for if it rains in the middle of the night, everything in my room is getting wet. I have to leave it just slightly open. Then I have to pray for rain, or else I'll be waking every two hours. I really need air-conditioning. Or I have to not play basketball for half a year and make my sweat glands not so active. Maslow's pyramid of needs. No wonder I can not achieve great things in a long time. All my basic needs were never really met.
Sigh, I was tired and sleepy and stressed on Thursday night. Then it was impossible to do anything. There are a lot of things to hand in on Friday, and the stress level was really very high. Moreover, I am not going to get sleep on Friday night, so sleep on Thursday night is a must. It was one of those nights where I felt dark clouds are clouding all over me, and all hope is lost. I went to bed in the end, but never fell asleep. In my mind, I was still too excited over the good basketball game I had throughout the night. I kept imagining myself in the position of all the shots that I took, and replay the feeling again and again. Of course, it all felt great. Little did I actually worry about work. Good sign? However nice it was, it was irritating, because I couldn't fall asleep until at least 4 a.m.. Not to mention, I am sweating like mad.
At the pinnacle of stress level and at the bottom of a bottomless pit. Once again, due to lack of time, I have decided not to go for tutorials because I am not going to benefit from it, and because I didn't have the time to do them. I am also too shameful to go for them. I have been trying to change this week in and week out, but it all ends up the same. However, I am seeing progress already. I only played basketball once for the whole of last week, and it was also a game well played. I actually woke up around 2p.m. by a message from Pei Hua. She is asking me for Maths help. I know my Maths is extremely extremely horrible, but I don't want to project a grim image for her as well. I went to take a look at the lab question. Heh, it was actually quite easy. =) Therefore, instead of missing my Maths lab for the week, I actually managed to get the maximum amount of marks. =) Confidence level took a boost again.
Convinced that I am going to finish everything for my TR2201 project, I embark on the camp that we were supposed to do. Unfortunately for me, the rest are not really accustomed to doing such things. It wasn't very productive, and the morale was super low. I managed all my parts though, as all the deadlines all draw near together. Week 11, the stress level is going to be super high. I have a lot a lot of deadlines to meet, and the time to make them all into victories is now. As of now, I think I have made a victory already. I did my laundry, and am only one more laundry away from completing the Neat Room Project Part 3. Then I can embark in Part 4 after completing Part 3. For now, I need all the rest I can get, for I have always realized the power of a good rest.
Deadlines are all very very close to each other. We'll start with the nearest. It's the SSB report and the EE2006 lab test. I have to start studying for it because as it stands, I haven't even downloaded the software and tried to meddle with it. I think I'll do so tomorrow. Also, an even more painful deadline is this Saturday. It's the CS1102C lab test. It's my final chance to show what I am worth, but unfortunately, due to lack of time, I could only show them half of what I am worth. Hopefully, that alone would be enough for me to get an 'A'. I need that pretty bad. Another deadline I have to meet is the Work and Travel program fee payment. It never really got to me that 14 days from acceptance of job is 14 days after the interview. I thought it would be like the whole sum of money when the time comes to get there. Lastly, it's the TR2201 project which would be due on the coming Tuesday. Putting it in numbers:-
EE2006 lab test, SSB2216 report:- 4 days left
CS1102C lab test:- 6 days left
TR2201 presentation:- 9 days left (a whopping 60%)
Payment for WAT USA:- As early as 1 day left, and the window is only open a few days.
Moreover, where am I going to find that big sum of money to pay them? It's impossible. Really. I also think they are severely overcharging us for the program fee part. They also don't give us the autonomy to choose the travel agent that we are going to travel with. To a certain extent, I think it was a really bad deal, but since I want to go with my friends, I have no choice but to go with them. Besides, I also want to spend my holidays fruitfully right? It would also be my only chance to ever see the US. So I am actually making a sacrifice by going, right? Sigh, money's another stressful problem. I heard Computer Centre is hiring. Some hallmaster of mine said if you can't afford to buy it, don't use it. I'll leave it to you to figure out who that was. He was referring to pirated softwares. =) I shall draw a parallel, and say if I can't afford to go, don't go.
To put it short, I am very stressed now, and it is going to be another stressful week ahead. Each week just became worse that the one before. I should make an itenary of what to do tomorrow, so that I can start immediately when I wake. It is almost 5 a.m., and I have yet to bathe. I initially wanted to sleep before 2a.m., to which I pushed to 3a.m., and then 4a.m., because of the two laundry trips that I made. Now it's 5.06a.m., and I have yet to bathe. I so can see 6a.m., and as time ticks away, I have less and less time to prepare for those deadlines.
After the TR2201 project meeting to which we did quite little, I went home and sleep. I don't have to tell you but you know I woke up every 2 hours again in discomfort. Woke up with a headache too. I wanted to sleep somemore but was unable to. Sigh. It sucks to be a Wai Hong. I apologize deeply, but I feel a need to whine against the weather. It's the rainy season, it should rain more often! Then when I decided to wake up, did some things already, I fell asleep without knowing. Why do I have no control over myself? Why is it when I want to sleep, I wake, and when I want to wake, I sleep? Went down for my double helping dinner, and I must admit, the standards dropped a lot lately. Maybe it's just my mood, but I think I am going to refrain from buying from the mixed rice stall for a while.
Then I went down to study, hoping to get a good air-cond room to study. I did found one, but the people inside said the air-cond wasn't working. I pressed the button and it worked. Yay! I moved the table so that it blew straight at me. It was really shiok. I wanted to play maple a while, to de-stress a little then study Maths. I was close to leveling up, so when I finally leveled, I was a little happy. But hey, it was already 11p.m., and the security guard never lock the rooms throughout the year and the year before. Apparently they just changed a set of security guards that are square. They follow rules to the max even though it doesn't make sense. Ok, they locked the room, just when I am starting to feel comfortable. Actually, it's difficult to feel comfortable for long because you can't leave your laptop lying around so you can't go for toilet break but whatever. Why does this thing have to happen today? As I walked to other rooms to see if it was occupied, they got locked one by one, and many more people join me, in search for more empty rooms, just to see them locked up. PGP is becoming a bad place to be. I want to move out of campus but yet stay in campus. Hopefully there are houses along Pasir Panjang road for rent.
Then I came back, started to blog, and did some laundry, and it's now. Sigh, being the optimistic person that I am, I hate to believe it, but time and energy is limited. And I've got other things to whine about too, but I shall remain optimistic. One example is the great NUS network that is getting onto my nerves. Project deadlines are coming and I can't access my Hotmail. How blissful. I think I am going to send a formal complaint tomorrow. They'll probably push the blame to the ISP anyway, but I am going to lodge one.
See, I even forgot that I was going to prepare an itenary for tomorrow. I am such a champion.

Week 10 - The most pivotal week of the semester
It's always been do or die, but it's even more so this week. Next week is week 11, and mark my first real exam, also 2 real project deadlines. It's after week 11, where I can finally start studying for the rest. This week would make a lot of difference between passing all my modules or failing all of them. Of course, if I manage to maintain good discipline all of week 10,11,12,13 and then the study week, I think I might be on way to doing slightly above average. Hey, I am optimistic, but at the same time, is trying to be realistic.
I really can't believe it's now Tuesday and the last time I updated was Friday. Hey, that means I spent time in between that fruitfully and am fully packed right? I am really amazed at how far time passes. Thinking like a programmer, I am actually happy whenever a new version of something is released. However, it is going to be just matter of days before it gets old and a few days later we are going to hope they release an even newer version. (This happens a lot in the development stage) I bet they also can't believe a few days just passed and it was like just now where they just released a new version. It is all piling on the pressure to me. I need a project to improve myself, but at this point, I don't know what I can do that will have impact and make the world a better place.
Picking off from Friday. I was supposed to do all those things in the long list there below. Of course I was trying to win moral victory from doing CS1102 lab. After I get started, hey, I liked it much. It kept me going on. I was supposed to sleep early on Friday because I have some interview on Saturday! =) It's the Work and Travel USA interview. It's exciting, because never in my life I would think that I would end up in US. Even much more less to work and spend a whole summer there. Even even even much much much more less to work in a theme park. =) Maybe it will happen in the future, but definitely not the near future, and I guess I am cosy where I am, so I wouldn't move. I am going to experience the American accent, culture etc. first hand!
I was programming all night long, and I liked it, because no matter how slowly, I am making progress. In the end, I managed to solve my lab 7, around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, and was amazed by how easy it all really was. There is this mental barrier that I need to overcome, and I think to a certain extent, physical exertion does play a part. I couldn't do anything on Thursday night and procrastinated a lot, and didn't have the drive to start at all. I guess that was the effect of playing full-court basketball all Wednesday night long and then playing again on Thursday night. I shall cut down on the number of trips to the courts, at least for this remaining 5 weeks.
Oh no, I shouldn't sleep, in case of accidents. Also, I was supposed to wake up at 5.30a.m. anyway to be there on time. Never been there so I wouldn't know how long it will take to get there. Besides, everyone was excited and wanted to be there early, to get the earliest queue number and end it all as soon as possible. I guess the more you wait, the more anxious you get and the poorer you finally perform at the interview. The period leading to the interview was extremely miserable. I managed to get by without coffee, and got out of my room without coffee. The bus ride to the MRT station was terrible as well, as there was a pain in my eye, that I was trying to open. I am also getting a very rare shoulder cramp, which I almost never had before. It was a muscle that was impossible to stretch, hence the cramp only gets worse for a while.
The morning walk in Orchard was great. It was surprisingly peaceful for Orchard road, minus the fact that it was actually quite dusty. Every now and then a car passes by and kicks up a lot of dust to the people nearby. Carol was the first familiar face I saw in the morning. Thanks to lack of sleep, I couldn't recognize her from the distance, but managed to see her as I was approaching. She is going for the interview too, just unfortunate that she isn't going the same place as me. However, it's still the east coast, and therefore it isn't really that far away. I know maps can be very deceiving. =p
Orchard Hotel was actually glamourous to a certain extent. I felt that I was not appropriately dressed to be there. I was in a sea of familiar faces to which I don't know more than half of their names. Worse, I was not very glamourous after a whole night of abstaining from sleep. I didn't expect so many people to be there too. It's nice after all, since these may be the people we'll be working with this coming summer and more familiar faces could help adapting to the environment. Moreover, most of the people are of the same age bracket so that means it would be easier for us to communicate! I can't help but being excited. We were one of the first few in the queue but yet got a fairly high queue number.
For a moment, I forgot that I had lack of sleep. The eyes didn't seem that heavy after all, but I still want to sleep. There's some scholarship for people who documented their stay properly and managed to touch hearts. Woo, maybe I stand a chance to win it? After all, I think I am going to be bored there while working. It's a small town, and althought there's everything there, there's also nothing much there. =) I would think that it will be an oversized Clementi. Unfortunately, I am not there yet, so I wouldn't know. I just have to anticipate. There is also a lack of internet connection, hence, a thumbdrive or something of the like would be very good. I seriously think I might need to bring some entertainment on the laptop to the way there. Thinking of investing in a chic external hard drive (>300Gb) for all the photo needs. I feel a strange need to take 7 mega-pixel photos though I know it's an overkill. However, all the extra resolution makes for easy post-processing. Besides, storage space is relatively cheap compared to programmer's time. =)
Actually why am I thinking so far? It's still a long long way to go... Although I know full well that time flies. That's why we should make full use of what is present right? Before we lose it. I have decided to enjoy the interview process, and the video just make the whole thing more exciting. Lack of sleep isn't a good thing. I don't know what happen, but all of a sudden, I feel very cold, and my limbs were shaking quite violently. I think it's adrenaline, but adrenaline when you have lack of sleep seems to work against you. Managed to get into conversations and relax. In the end, the interview went smooth too. =) Was able to communicate with the interviewer without her having to try and make up what I spoke. Now looking forward to the enjoyable summer vacation. Having hot tea with lots of milk + raw sugar after the thing was heavenly. I had a few servings! I don't seem so tired after drinking them anymore.
Gastric pain!!! I should have kept some food in the room for all the long nights that I am going to put in. However, after feeling hungry all night long, I am hungry for Mcdonald's Hotcakes. This is also one of the reasons why I think I am going to like US. Maybe their serving size would be larger and I would be satisfied with just one serving of it? It keeps me asking for more. Maybe I just have an appetite that is greater than the average South East Asian. Rushed to the nearest 24 hours Mcdonalds and it was minutes to 11a.m.. Sigh, most outlets stop serving breakfast at 10.45a.m.. Oh no, what to do now? Luckily when we reached, there were still a long queue of people who are going for the breakfast menu. =) I had hotcakes, and shortly after, when they changed over to their regular menu, I had a large fries. Two of my favourite food together to cure my gastric, bliss.
Rushed back for some sleep too. I wonder why am I so tired but yet at the same time couldn't sleep for very long. Maybe I was too stressed and my brain is too rushed by the significant amount of things that I will have to do? I don't know. It's just frustrating that you are tired and yet you are unable to get the required amount of rest to get out of this vicious cycle. I am so looking forward to the short December holidays. Though it is short, it is much needed. Then I am supposed to keep my promise, so I packed up my things and left. I slept a lot during the weekend instead, though I can't say most of it was quality sleep. Printed all my notes to-date and so I am supposedly back on target right now. It is a good place to get started anyhow.
Came back and immediately got bombarded with a project meeting. It was a stressful one indeed, as there is only 10 more days before the submission date. Sigh, everything has a 10 days deadline. Sigh number two, we just clarified, and didn't get down and dirty into actually writing the thing. At least we have a structure to start on, but almost a 2 hours meeting just for structure was a little underkill. I sort of ignored my 'don't sleep late' I mandate myself. I know I'll be making a mistake by sleeping late, but I cannot help it, as programming manages to keep me go on and on, and I am reveling in the fact that I am really doing some productive work. I am almost completing my lab 5 already. In the end I got too tired and decided to take a short 2 hours nap before school start. I woke up on time and was only 20 minutes late.
Went down with Derek to take photos of most halls around NUS. Woah, everyone is almost broken now. That means we're all using our time to the fullest! =) Came back and hoped to have a very good rest. And I woke up at 9p.m., unable to continue sleeping. Blasted. I was expecting to wake up at least after 2a.m.. I need sleep. I need sleep. I need sleep. Oh well, since I couldn't, might as well put it to good use. You see, this post is also to help me get into the writing mode, then I can start contributing to the 3000 word deadline that I am supposed to meet in 8 day's time.

Pitiful creature of darkness
I guess you know what happened. After trying to do the EE2005 tutorial for a while, I fell asleep. Was still debating with myself whether it's a good thing to skip sleep, since I might not even finish, and not having enough sleep is disastrous. However, I feel extremely guilty and shameful if I went to lesson without doing my work first. Therefore, I accidentally skipped whole of Friday again. What a bad start as a 21 year-old. I know it's better to feel it now than to feel it after getting my exam results, but the weekend is approaching, and I guess I can try to rectify the problem. Kill procrastination! Kill distractions! Why am I in this problem anyway?
Worse, I saw my gradebook. MA1506... I feel like a complete failure.
Things to do today:- (Revised)
-Bathe.
-Lunch. (One helping.)
-Laundry. (Gasps, no place to hang anymore.)
-CS1102C lab. (Gotta win a moral victory in this one.)
-Play with Photoshop. (Project meeting tomorrow.)
-EE2005 tutorials. (All.)
-EE2006 tutorials. (All.)
-MA1506 tutorials. (All.)
Remember, time is ticking. And hey, this looks less overwhelming than yesterday. =)

Half done, again
Wai Hong the energetic person decided to play ball after seeing all his friends playing. Wai Hong decided he could still finish everything despite playing ball. Come to think of it, Wai Hong always see a lot of friends on the courts. Wai Hong need to stop being friendly and stop making more and more basketball friends. Then again, Wai Hong boleh! =)
Checklist of what's done and what's need to be done:-
-Update blog. (Done!)
-Bathe. (Three times! Wai Hong is a clean animal.)
-Dinner. (One serving. The lemon chicken was extraordinarily good. Worthy of a second helping, but I resisted!)
-Laundry. (First batch sent. Two batches postpone? They're clean anyway.)
-Hand-copy (and understand) the notes. (Unfortunately, time doesn't permit.)
-CS1102 lab. (I'll skip this one for sure.)
-EE2005 tutorial. (I'll start from this one I guess.)
-EE2006 tutorial. (Next.)
-CS1102C tutorial. (Next.)
-Play with Photoshop. (Postpone.)
-Study for EE2006 lab tomorrow. (New addition! Needed.)
In addition, Wai Hong vows to not go for tutorial without at least attempting the questions first. =)

Determination + Middle of week 9
First day of being a 21 year-old, and I have a free day! =) Determined to do more work and make this year count. After all, I am finally an adult. (Though I resent the fact.) I have decided to do a lot of things, including my tutorial that is due on Thursday. However, once I was going to start doing my work, I heard the sound of basketball bouncing. I went out to check and realized it's Wednesday night and it's supposed to be my playing night. Convinced that I am still young, I thought I could play basketball and then do work and still finish everything.
Somehow it doesn't seem to work. I missed almost all my shots the whole night long. My reflexes were slow the whole night long. Couldn't get myself open, couldn't catch incoming pass, and so on. Missing easy shots didn't make it easier. Nevertheless, I played as hard as I could, for tomorrow might not be the same right? I must admit, all my shots were short, that means my arms don't have enough energy? Come to think of it, it must be the new Foodgle hub. Curiosity really killed the cat, and my Char Siew/Roasted Pork with additional rice costs me $4.50. Therefore, I decided to only get one helping. Looking on the bright side, I am eating a little healthier, but I was very very hungry right after playing basketball.
Strong determination to get work done. Did the easy jobs first, made some letterhead samples and that took one hour. Next up, playing with Photoshop, and getting familiar with it. I am getting better and better at it again. Wanted to make an avatar for Michael before linking him in, then update my links. In the end, I got hooked editing some artistic photos I took! =) Maybe I should even change the headboard photo with my work once in a while. =) Anyway, it's a great feeling to go to class with all your work done. It cuts the amount of stress by a lot, and it makes you want to go for classes! Wanted to get laundry done too! In the end, because of extreme hunger, rushed down at 1.40a.m. to see if there's any food left. Unfortunately, the kitchen's closed and only things left are overpriced donuts and sandwiches. A box of sandwiches cost $2.50 and only has two slices of bread and something in between. For $2.50, I can get two loaves of bread and still have some spare coins to do laundry. =) I shall supress my hunger, and save yet a littble bit more of money.
Found it a little easier to wake up in the morning, because I went to bed early. Went to bed around 2a.m. but only feel asleep at 3a.m.. Still not optimal yet. I should strive to sleep before 12a.m., but I played basketball last night and by the time I finish playing ball, getting a drink and bathe, it's 11.40p.m., leaving me very little room to do work. Besides, determination was high yesterday, so I guess, finishing some work and leave me in a moral victory would be better than moral victory earned from getting enough sleep. Woke up at around 8.30a.m., but at least I woke up on time. I realized, skipping the 8 a.m. lecture on Thursdays and Fridays are becoming a habit.
The three hours long lesson felt even longer than it was. However, that would mean I have used time to the fullest right? But I was already hungry before my sleep, and when I woke up, I am not getting food till after the 3 hour lesson, hence the 3 hour lesson felt a little like torture. Thankfully, I did not have gastric pains, only feeling the extreme hunger. Rushed to the Arts Canteen right after lesson to have double helping from the mixed rice stall, and ate sausages on both helping. Also, stood for a good two minutes at the water cooler for the oh-so-refreshing cold water that I haven't experienced on a regular basis since leaving ACJC.
During the lesson, I learnt about informal and formal education. I finally get to realize that informal education is experience and knowledge that you gain unplanned. For example, reading news give you informal education. After all, I think I am improving myself reading other people's blog and maintaining my own blog. I just shouldn't overdo it and spend too much time on it. At least now I know I can improve myself somehow from it. I also learned that a lot of good paying jobs are almost a surefire way of getting white hairs. Therefore, no one takes it even though it is good paying.
Then being extremely sleepy from the double helping of food, 5 hours sleep, and 3 hours long lesson, I dashed home for a nap before my next lesson. I met my group leader on the way, and he too was very tired and dashing back to his room to sleep. This nap before lesson thing usually works, and make me more able to focus during lessons. However, I wanted to do some work before taking the nap since I technically have quite a bit of time. I ended up spending time till 2 p.m. trying to do work, and fighting sleepiness. Maybe it was a mistake, and I should have slept instead. (Though I know that method I will get zero work done.) Amazed by the small amount of work done, I stayed on until around 2.30p.m., when I really cannot take it anymore.
Then I decided to try and sleep with my face facing up. I usually sleep sideways, and I think that results in my very bad posture. I never could fall asleep facing up unless unless I am extremely extremely tired. This look like a good chance for me to kill two birds with one stone. Get rest and good posture! Mistake again. I never could fall asleep facing up. Period. I think I managed to get a few minutes' sleep, and then I wake again, and another few minutes, and I wake again, while being very tired. Being the good student that I am, I see my alarm clock to 3p.m., so that I could bathe and make it in time for Maths at 4p.m.. =) The intention was there. However, I snoozed my alarm, getting another few minutes' rest, and wake up to snooze the alarm again. Finally, it's 3.30p.m. with a severe headache and felt like I never took a nap.
I give up trying to sleep facing up for now. I turned sideways and the next few minutes of sleep felt sooo good. Snoozed the alarm, and the next few minutes of sleep felt even better. 3.50p.m. was like the absolute deadline to wake up, but I am just starting to get good rest. Woke up but didn't feel like going for classes. Also, feeling good from going to class with all my work done, now I feel extra extremely guilty of going for my next class without work done. Besides, my record for Maths is no longer clean, after missing one lab, screwing up another lab, and missing one tutorial. I should have been in business, for I still maintain a clean record with my business modules.
Therefore, the great determination to do work begin again. Hopefully I do as much as I can and still manage to sleep on time. Attack plan:- (Do the first things first, then traverse down the list, if it's too hard then skip and proceed to the next one in the priority)
-Update blog (Almost done as of now.)
-Bathe. (Clean, clean. Only your second time today, and the first was so rushed.)
-Dinner. (Control yourself, one serving.)
-Laundry, laundry, laundry (3 times laundry, towards completion of another project, the Neat Room Project)
-Hand-copy (and understand) latest Maths notes, EE2006 and EE2005 notes.
-Do CS1102C lab. (Potentially skip, since I'll have the weekend.)
-Then EE2005 tutorial. (Do the hand-up one first.)
-Then EE2006 tutorial.
-Then CS1102C tutorial.
-Play with Photoshop. (T-shirt design)
Tomorrow will conclude week 9. I hope to redeem myself for the very weak effort put in the start of this week, and also for missing Maths. =)

Birthday blues
Carrying off where I left off from Friday. I have decided to be a good boy. I have decided to do my T-shirt design so that I can send to Michelle and get a quote on Sunday. Here is where a problem arises. Though my new wife (laptop) is one year old, I didn't do enough photo-editting, video-editting, and other time consuming work on it before. (Not enough bonding? =)) All I did was use Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Office, SSH, and some games. I actually can't remember when was the last time I did one of those time-consuming things, and therefore, they ended up being more time-consuming than they were. It didn't help when I realized all the best designs/fonts and everything I have still resides in my desktop's harddrive. Familiarity with the interface was a huge plus too, but I have to relearn a little bit of those while searching for the thing I want on the laptop.
Problem number two. Walau, the sample was sooo small in size can? We want to put it where? If we want to put it big big at the back of the T-shirt then we really have a problem. They described the look as being fuzzy when they tried to enlarge it. The feeling you have when you zoomed too much in. I suggested that our logo be made into a badge, and if it was really cheap, we can even give out for free! The design must be chic of course, and then we may even fuel the next badge revolution! That aside, I really have some work to do. Smudging the place for a good finish and stuffs. Sigh, where are all my favourite fonts too? Next is taking the photo of a plain shirt and add my logo in. Now, where is my transfer cable? Where is my plain shirt? Hopefully too, it turns out great with my below average camera. In the end, all is halfway done only. It was a little too time-consuming, and I cannot concentrate for prolonged periods of time. Half-done.
Well, I didn't have much time to do it either. I was summoned to have lunch with Angel, and a very late lunch at that. Then she came over, and since I was so stressed the past week, I felt that I should relax a little. Also stressed that I couldn't get the weekend to rest, though I should be happy that my whole family would be visiting. Also, it may be a blessing in disguise right? Called home until the phone ran out of battery and went on to play basketball. It was one of those time I played very well. I almost didn't miss the whole night long, and everyone played well, including our opponents, so it was lots of fun. My confidence level took a boost, since I was scoring like mad, only to be outdone by an opponent's sharpshooter. I should just be thankful that I scored on almost all attempts. After a certain while, it felt like we were both playing one-on-one. I do have an advantage though, I am taller than him. He can't block my hook-shots, but neither could I block his quick-release super accurate shots.
Then it all dawned upon me again, that I am young. I should be spending my last few days as a twenty year-old, in joy! Old but not old enough. Finally happy and a little bit energetic, I retired to my room, but I can't help but feel that pain in my knees. Looking at the multi-vitamin bottle and taking the second last tablet out of the bottle to relieve my pain. According to doctor, it's a tendon problem, similar to those tennis elbows. Jumper's knees? All I do know is that during my JC days, I used to play many hours straight without problems, and that seemed so much in distance from where I am now. I really want to go sight-seeing in my past. There's so much things that I have forgotten!
Woke up to Saturday, and it was raining slightly. How very nice. =) Met my family in Bugis, but ouch! it was Hari Raya. Seeing everyone in new dress and clothes was a good sight, but I had to survive extra jam-packed MRT trains and busses. Yeah, people getting rejected by busses and train was a common sight today. I am thankful for I have ample number of busses to get to Harbourfront and also boarding MRT from a corner MRT station (Harbourfront) is definitely easier. Courtesy of this, I cannot stop laughing when I see the word 'Punggol' as you would frequently see at the Harbourfront station. The phrase, "Uh-oh, Pung-gol!" reverberates in my mind everytime I see that, and I can't control my laughter. If you see a madman laughing at the MRT station, that's me. Another pod-cast that I think is hard to forget, is this.
Walked around Bugis a little, and the very familiar food-court is now gone! It has moved to level 3, where a lot of fashion shops used to be there. Sigh, sometimes they do bring back some memories of shopping with certain people, but seeing the new food-court is a nice change though. Only downside is we couldn't get a place to sit at 3.30p.m., way beyond lunchtime, even after circling the place for many times. It's a nice new place and I think the design looks cool, the chairs look comfortable, the food looks nice and yummy, but there's just no place to sit down. In the end, we settled for Swensen's and earthquake! Hehe, photos next time, since they are with my sister. Turkey bacons! Yay!
It's interesting because Orchard has less people than Bugis. At least there wasn't a walkway where I get stuck for a long time because there was too many people. I know that may be an inaccurate measure, but the tendency of getting rejected by train at Bugis station is much higher than in Orchard station or Dhoby Ghaut station. It's also easier to find a place at a food court here. Had Sakae Sushi for dinner. Yay! Blown candles there too! The people there clapped along, but hey, everyone there knows I was going to turn 21. A good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. Then I embarked on the long journey home. On bus service 14, the trusted but slow to arrive bus service that I took for years.
That was the time where everyone was going home, so naturally the bus was full. A girl went to sit beside me, and I think it isn't polite to look, so for the bulk of the journey I have no idea who was sitting next to me. I was just laughing at some of the good (but cruel) jokes on TVMobile. =) All of a sudden, she turned to her friend sitting right behind her and said, "I want to go ACJC!". I was kind of stunned. She quickly followed with a "It's a very good school!". Somehow, I felt very warm inside. Smiled, and wanting to turn to them and talk about it, but they happened to be alighting at that stop. Maybe it was just fated to be said, it lighten up my whole day. =) Maybe it was fated that I wouldn't be able to talk to them, as I think as objective as I can be, I may still swerve their thinking in one direction. =)
Sigh, it's already Saturday night. Michelle needed the designs by Sunday, where she'll go get the quotes. All the nice designs that I have in mind are being put to work. Having stood and walked the whole day, and breaking in between just for food, I was physically tired as well. It didn't help when I accidentally fell asleep. The enlarging was a problem in itself. I have to slowly correct and smooth out pixels that looked too square. If only I have my desktop with me, then I can refer to how I did for my class page. Until now, it still rocks! =) It didn't help when I accidentally fell asleep. Sigh, with the windows open and the lamp on. I woke up at around 8a.m. with the sun shining right at me. Decided I shouldn't leave my group alone, I quickly did a quick one, took a shower, and went back to sleep. I reached home at 12a.m., read and answered forums and then did part of the design and fell asleep at approximately 3a.m.. Woke-up with a headache, since it wasn't proper sleep at all.
Woke up later still with a headache, and job's not well done plagued my sleep. Besides, I wasn't used to sleeping that late anymore, so my body's immune system sort of took a blow. Went out again whole day, in Orchard. Shop, shop and shop. Lunch was some braised duck thingy that tasted quite good. I haven't had a good taste for quite some time in a place that wasn't costly. Dinner was food republic at Atria. Food is difficult to find in both Bugis and Orchard. Both seats were gotten after a lot of work scouting, waiting, and anticipating when would people finish their food. Highlight of the day goes to the family that said, "How rude!" when we waited nearby their tables. Keep in mind we were just walking around, after at least 10 rounds around the place, and we weren't making noise. In fact, I find it rude for people who have already finished their food and still sit at the table despite many many people who are unable to get a seat are still walking around and complain that other people are rude for having patience. For having patience, I smiled instead of punching that lady in the face. =)
Long journey home again, and that concludes the weekend. I arrived my place early, like around 10p.m. and saw that everyone on the basketball court were my friends. All 3 courts of them. They seem to be having sooo much fun, and sights like those were really rare. Dashed up, changed and dashed down again. Had lots of fun, despite not being to play with everyone. We rock, though I missed two easy shots, I did knock down some difficult ones. Ups and downs do happen. Since I was supposedly a little happier from having enough sleep and lots of play, I have decided to sit down and talk to them a little, also since I haven't been doing that for a long time, instead of the usual rush back up, bathe then do work routine.
First, they did some jumping, since the lights were off and bouncing the ball produces noise, all we can do is jump. I know I couldn't touch the rim for a long time already, but everyone was trying to do it. Then the sad realization came to me that, I once can touch the rim. Why is it no matter how hard I try now, I can't even get near? As I do more and more, the pain in the knees begin to be more evident. I have even come to realize that time and energy is limited, unlike the younger me, who was full with untold amount of energy. Then one of us tried to do some break dance move as a cool down exercise. To his credit, he does have a few good moves, minus the fact that he had to cut it short with a cramp.
All the 'lao liao' remarks begin to fly, as he told us how he once could do it like all night long, while clubbing. Then I learned that he's now twenty-five years old. Honestly, he didn't look all that age. Even though he's a year 4, I thought he would be at most twenty-three. Then they went on to discuss about clubs and such. Someone asked him if clubbing was really fun, as if you are not actively socializing/dancing, you are practically stoning plus drinking. He said, "Of course it was fun. As a 19/20 year-old that have little worries, with all your friends and dancing/drinking all night long. Come to think of it, 19/20 year-old seemed to be quite a distance away now. I can't really remember much about it." Sounds like me. I recall a night when I was 16, we were trying to put names on what we'll be after 16. It was sweet sixteen, sour seventeen, bitter eighteen and we couldn't think of nicer words for 19 and onwards. Hey, I am optimistic though, seventeen wasn't sour, and eighteen wasn't bitter. =) However, 16 does feel like a long distance away.
Thinking lots afterwards. Especially since my knees started to feel a little funny, I reached out for the multi-vitamins bottle and ingest the last tablet from it. Really wanted to go back and see what it was like back then. Really really wanted. Anyway, I am kind of glad I kept a blog, so I could look back and see how it was like, at least for the past two years. I do realize, as I get older, the comments did seem more negative and am amazed by how positive I was two years ago. Hey, I am still the same person right? =) I just realize now I give both sides of the story, and even though I think as deep as I do now, I used to hide the negatives. =) People thought I was naive and childish. Anyway, I do think I am more objective now, letting all the ideas freely flow. Not trying to show that I am not naive, but I find serenity in being able to express my thoughts in words, and then come back at a later time to revisit them. I'll keep these memories for as long as I am allowed to.
Searching blog ability is back! =) Remind me to update my links soon. (If I find time.) I found Michael, and other fellow AC people, guess what, when searching TR2201. I know that once I enter this phrase, I might be in the results page too! It's nice and refreshing to read other people's ideas, problems, praises and complains while taking the module. I'll just like to remind myself that everyone I see is fighting a tough battle, as there are always something about them you don't really know. Everyone can tell a story, we'll just have to be good listeners. If Michael allows, I'll link to him soon too. =) This is one of the post in one of the blogs that caught my attention. http://www.mervynsek.blogspot.com/ Background information, I think this person is a new teacher in ACJC. If you go further and read his website, I think he taught in ACS(I) before too.
The thing that caught my attention is the disclaimer. =) I didn't want my blog to have a disclaimer, but seems like a disclaimer is a good thing to have. In fact, I think I don't go too deep into sensitive issue and try to be a good citizen in most aspects. Anyway, here's how the disclaimer looked like, and my disclaimer goes here:- No copyright infringement intended.
The information in this blog is provided 'as is' with no warranties, and confers no rights.
My thoughts and opinions change from time to time. I consider this a necessary consequence of having an open mind. This blog is intended to provide a semi-permanent point in time snapshot and manifestation of the various memes running around my brain. As such, any thoughts and opinions expressed within out-of-date posts may not be the same, nor even similar, to those I may hold today.
Feel free to challenge me, disagree with me, or tell me that I am completely nuts in the Cbox or the comments section of each blog entry, but I reserve the right to delete any comment for any reason whatsoever (abusive, profane, rude, or anonymous comments) - so keep it polite, please.
Well, the most important part is the thoughts and opinions change from time to time, and it being a necessary consequence of having an open mind. In fact, I wanted to add something like this a long time ago, in a bid to encourage more people to blog and share thoughts, but then again, my language skills defeat me. I am happy that there is someone with the same ideologies as me and yet able to communicate the idea. Semi-permanent time snapshot too, as I want to be able to visit old posts and see what I did, what I observed, what I encountered and such. However, I did regret visiting my past birthday thoughts. Remind me next time, to not visit older birthday thoughts post without first posting for the year as no matter how objective I may be, reading that might just bias my current thoughts, no matter how little. =) Besides, it just piles on the sadness. Thoughts that drive me to tears.
Monday was nothing interesting. At the same time, I was a little hyper that day but I don't know why. Maybe feeling energetic from finally being able to consolidate thoughts, and think that everything was for the better. Went for Maths and I understood what that was being said. =) At the same time, didn't see something. Anyway, dinner with Angel again, and had another mini-celebration, when the hour draws nearer. Had some birthday presents too, and some of them represented something I really wanted for a long time, but were forgotten due to being put on hold for a long time.
Sneaker balls, I wanted those even back in JC days already. It does tell you how much I care for some of my shoes, right? But I never eventually got a pair. It was because it was a whopping $9 for a pair. It was expensive for me back then. I know thoughts and perceptions change, but for me when I was in JC, anything that is above $5 needs a second thought before purchase. I'll even avoid fast food like McDonald's, and I think I couldn't remember when was the last time I had KFC back then. It's a little different now though. McDonald's is cheaper in NUS and who knows, I sometimes treat myself to it if I think I have done a good job. =) When I entered university, I totally forgot about sneaker balls. Besides, I no longer have to use shoes in unfavourable conditions. I only go play basketball when the courts are dry. No more training in the rain or other things that may damage the shoe or make it smelly.
Calculator. =) All died. It's even worse. It's around $30 and I don't know why they all last around approximately one change of battery, unlike my Secondary 1 one which did last all the way till Secondary 4. By the time I entered university, all died, and $30 is something that require triple thoughts and re-evaluation before buying. Besides, I don't really need it that often. I only remember that I don't have a calculator when I have exams, and that only happens twice a semester. Yeah, I cleanly forgot I was without calculator until just before my Maths test. =) Proceeded to borrow one 30 minutes before the paper. Luckily I live on campus. =) Is the $30 worth the investment? My mentality might change though, depending the amount of free cash I have. I don't have to worry now, as I finally got one as a birthday present! =)
Unexpected birthday presents included a digital thermometer and a Shieldtox insect spray. I am so grateful, and think it was really nice but I leave it to you to find out who was the contributor. =)
Then I ban myself from work. I have decided to have as much fun as I could for one day. I know this will have negative implications on my near future, but life's not all about work and study right? It was nice of my project group leader to send a reminder about the project meeting the next morning, but unfortunately, it was the only message I got after midnight. I know I don't expect anyone to remember, but... it's just sad. To pile on the sadness, someone is trying to remind me about work. Then I replied:-
Me: Can I don't come? =)
Group leader: ...NO. Tomorrow is a major meeting.
Me: But, but, but, it's a very special day! =)
Group leader: Just try to be there la. Or else I don't know what to say to the rest.
Me: Wokay.
Well, it was not good leaving my group people alone. I have decided to go for the project meeting. However, I have banned myself from work for the day, and didn't want to proceed to finish the designs I was supposed to finish. It was also the first day I got rest since there was no rest for me for the weekends. I played till around 6a.m. where I couldn't take it anymore and decided to have an hour's nap before project meeting. (I am horrible, I know! But I don't want my birthday to be sprinkled with unsignificant memories.) What would I remember next year anyway? =)
As you may have probably guessed, taking a nap just before you are supposed to wake up is disastrous. I know it worked before, and generally it is better than staying up and not sleeping all the way until the thing you are supposed to do is over and then ko. However, it sometimes result in very bad consequence, like me waking up once at 8a.m., when I was supposed to wake up. It wasn't me that snoozed the alarm. It was my subconcious self. I was awake for less than a second, saw the clock, snoozed alarm and went back to sleep next second. I got my sleep interupted for nothing. Next time I remember waking, is 8.45a.m.. Someone was complaining about my alarm, so I switched it off. (Disaster strikes!) Next moment, it's 11.22a.m., and meeting should be at least almost over. Sigh. Since I have no lab and my other lesson was cancelled, I could get a free day by skipping one lecture. The project meeting spoiled my free day. Since I missed project meeting, I declare free day. =) Woke up at 3.20p.m. in the end.
Explored the new eating place. Things didn't look that much better, but the prices were up. The shop spaces is too small, but I wonder why everyone ate there. Do people just like all things new? I went over to the normal canteen during dinnertime, and it wasn't crowded. No queues to get food, a lot of empty spaces and a lot of selection of stuffs at the mixed rice stalls! =) Cheap and filling as always too! =) The new eating place, called the "Foodgle hub", is a good thing after all. At least, I am enjoying my dinner in a better ambience. =)
Too many birthdays this few days. I was preceeded by someone else I know and the next day, it's someone else I know's birthday. Accompanied Angel to buy birthday card for her sister. Two cards caught my attention. Front cover:- "Don't worry about getting a year older." Inside:- "You are younger now than you'll ever be." Front cover:- "Don't count the years." Inside:- "Make the years count." I guess I'll heed the advice. =)
I am unable to truly put my thoughts into words, but after a while, I slept again, and woke up at 11.30p.m.. Decided to make the most out of my last few minutes of my birthday, a strong urge to finish a lot of work that I am supposed to do, made me hurry and line up things for myself. I decided to blog first, then do other things on the list but looks like it had to be blog only. (I am too tired now to even transfer photos.) Was chatting a little while blogging too, but I am amazed how fast time passes. It is now 6.22a.m., and this post took approximately 7 hours to complete. Though I agree at some point of time, I was just actively chatting, but at other times, I am actively typing! How does it ever consume so much time? Besides, I am not even thinking twice while typing, and letting everything flow out of my mind freely, with little lag or pause in between. At least it was time well-used, documenting my thoughts. =)

NUS network sucks
NUS network sucks. I should be more accurate. Using the internet from NUS sucks. I should be more accurate. Using the internet through NUS network from PGP sucks. I should be more accurate. Using the internet through NUS network from my room sucks. I wonder where the problem lies. A little bit more of background information, actually there is nothing much wrong with surfing the internet through the browser. The problem comes when you want to do anything else on the internet. This includes IM, online games that doesn't run through the browser, streaming stuffs like videos from NBA.com, and whatever else you want to do with the internet other than using the browser.
Since surfing through the browser is relatively fast, I suspect there is a latency problem. Browser could work fast because they do not constantly send data up and down. They send the request for data, and the server respond with data. However, for other things, you constantly need to send 'pings' back and forth with the server to confirm that you are still online. Though they require very very very little bandwidth. How do I get the server to constantly send response? Then I decided to do pings and traceroute. Most of the common web servers like hotmail.com and google.com have a lag time of 150ms-200ms, which can be improved upon. Most people try to aim below 150ms, because then you wouldn't feel it. However, it should provide us with lagless other services as well. Doing a traceroute, I hop a total of 7 nodes before reaching computer centre, but all that done in under 1ms, which means very very good job. The link then jump to a number above 150ms, so is it the connection between NUS and the ISP the problem? From Starhub onwards it was pretty quick, managed to get into the particular Hotmail server in Los Angeles within 3 hops, and very low timings.
Another surprising fact, I could ping 'www.maplesea.com' in under 3ms. Then I wonder where the lag comes from. The server seems to reside within Starhub itself. Also when I am using wireless instead of cable, the problem is the other way round. Surfing is a little slow, but things using low bandwidth but require constant communications are lagless. Only problem being I am a little far from the base station, and at best could get 2 bars, with a lot of irritating disconnections. Then I think it may probably be the congestion through the cable network. I did a traceroute with the wireless connection, another surprise came! It goes through the exact same few nodes before reaching computer centre. I am stupid, wireless base station also have to connect through a network point what? How come then there is this distinct difference?
Maybe the problem is client-side? I tweaked all possible settings to no avail. It's the network. Even flashed my BIOS to the latest one. Maybe the router is racist, or exercise favoritism. =p (Actually not possible.) The worse part is that I am stuck with it for the rest of the year.
I should continue my stories from Maths paper the other day. Just when I got out of my room, it rained very very badly. Maybe the heavens are crying for the inevitable defeat. Strangely, I feel no rush again, and I told myself to relax. The is a very very stronge urge to do well, much like how I wanted to do well for my CS1101 last semester. I think it's probably because of the effort put in the past two days, and I seriously wanted to make the effort worth it and count. Stuck at the bus stop, and 15 minutes late for a one hour paper. Explored around and managed to find a sheltered path all the way to my seat. I sat down and wrote my matriculation number, 20 minutes late. Wai Hong is so brave! =)
Hey, I know how to do 2 questions out of 5. I'll give you statistics of last semester. I scored 1 out of 10 MCQs last semester. This semester, it's upon 40 and each question I knew how to do was 8 marks. Discounting silly mistakes somewhere, I should still do much better than last semester right? A sense of happiness filled me, and somehow I thought the effort past two days was worth it. I treat myself to McDonald's, and it felt like forever since I last pampered myself. I took my time to slowly eat and enjoy my food. After that, suddenly it dawned upon me again. 2 out of 5, still not good enough. In fact, it sucks. Anyone could do better than that. Except me. I have to work even harder.
Mentally tired from all the studying I had to do. Also, it wasn't the only paper I had. I had CS1102C on Saturday, remember? Seems like all the rest I got from the one week term break is gone. I felt like breaking. Time for some entertainment! I didn't feel like studying for the next paper at all. I know I shouldn't feel that way, but I sit in front of the notes and nothing is going in. Then I know I really need to de-stress, to pick up the stress to study again. Unfortunately, trying to destress ended up in more stress. I was 10% away from a level-up and that should be less than 30 minutes work. Then I can go on and do studying. However... I kept getting disconnected again and again, so much so that I took 8 hours to get that 10%. At that point of time, I just wanted to smash the computer centre. I am stuck. Help! Then I didn't feel like studying still as well, after all the stress. Needed sleep too.
In the end, I have to study and cram a lot in the last 5 hours before the paper, skipping my Maths lab even. I am surprised I could do the number systems questions fairly easily. Hehe, it isn't a tough module at all. It's just that I am spending too little time on it. If I manage to get enough rest this coming weekend, I think I am going to catch-up on both EE2005 and EE2006. This is a semester that I am close to doing well. Well, relatively well, after all the disasters during the course of the semester. I think this week is going to be a disaster.
Well, it was raining again, and I was on-time, one minute early. Sat down, wrote my matric number and it's time to start. Maybe it was fated, that the first question was a number systems questions. I quickly went on to capitalize on it, and it's 30% out of 100%. That's money in the bag, and it kind of improved my confidence. However, there are two really hard questions in there, and one which I was unsure of. I'll say I get around 60%, and was quite happy at it, considering the 5 hours effort I put in. On hindsight, 60% really isn't good enough, but I was really happy, for it marked the end of the mid-term test scare. The past week was, apart from disastrous, torturous.
Finally relatively stress-free, and able to think slow and deep for a while, I embarked on a journey to Clementi, hopefully to get a haircut done, prior to the emotional next week. I would be busy for the week-end as well, as my parent is coming to visit me. (No rest for poor Wai Hong.) The bus there was severely cramped, so much so that the bus did not stop at any other stop after my stop and proceeded to Clementi straight. It couldn't fit another person. I wasn't complaining though, I had nice hair brushing my shoulders and back. =) Angel's bus came for her like almost the moment she went to the bus stop. I had to wait a while, but it wasn't the usual long wait. I always expect a long wait for 183, therefore, coming within 5 minutes was particularly unexpected. Maybe I was lucky? =)
Ooh, now I should rush back. Wednesday is basketball night with Malaysians. I rushed back and it was 10.30p.m.., still got a little more than 30 minutes to play. They looked really fierce and according to them, they had a great and tiring 5-on-5 earlier. I just quickly went to take a shower to get rid of mini-hairs everywhere on me, and then rushed down. Probable 10.40p.m.. Waiting for my chance to play. Maybe I was a little happy and hyper. I also noticed I jumped much higher than usual, and I scored every ball during my own practice shoot-around. Finally got chance to play, though I think it will be the game that will end the night.
Our team was a little disadvantaged. Height disadvantage. Three of us was around the same height, and one of us is a little shorter. Nevertheless, we went on to quickly grab a 5-0 lead. We were shooting great. Woah, I scored the second ball off a rebound, and had assists on the next three, and added two more rebounds. Yeah, I was just rebounding, passing it out, and they shoot, and it goes in. Not very spectacular, but it keeps on pilling the fun. Besides I was jumping very high, so I had tap on a few of opponent's shot, just nice to deflect them from going in. Then it turned around, and I didn't really do anything till the game ends. It was 5-2 then it was 6-1. They pushed all the way to 6-6 but we scored at last and won 7-6. There's no time to change team, we extended to eleven balls. 8-6, 8-7, 8-8. And finally we scored to make it 9-8 and the lights went off. Statistics wise, I didn't do anything, but I was happy that we were playing great! Someone told me I looked very fresh that night.
I finally reached my room, time to do some work. I realized I could only work when there is no stress on me. I know I make a very good last minute worker too, but doing work in advance can only be done when there's no stress. Sigh, someone kind of entirely spoilt my whole night. My neighbour take the same module as me, (SSB2216) so he asked me if I have done my critic. (It's due the next day, and it's 10% of the total CA). I was like, are you sure it's due tomorrow? He was sure. Now I am stressed all over again. First, I did pay some attention to the local newspaper lately with things that have to do with human resource, but I haven't got any article. So I have 9 hours till a deadline, and I couldn't find a suitable article online. Sigh, none of the article were kick-ass enough.
As the night drew longer and longer, and me more and more tired, the danger of me accidentally falling asleep or cannot take it anymore becomes more and more evident. At the same time, I wanted to last on my own will and power, and not on coffee, because I realized I have bad experiences after downing lots of coffee like weak knee, hands and legs shaking for no reason, very fast heartbeating and lots of sweat. Worse could be when you go to the loo, and whatever you are throwing out smells of coffee. I like coffee, but I just don't like it's after-effects. Anyway, I managed to keep myself awake on my own free will, but by 6 a.m.., I still couldn't find the kick-ass article with the x-factor. I did land myself in mrbrownshow.com for some fun and laughter after all. I had hoped to find some hyped-up recent happenings that I didn't realize over there. I suggest people go check the latest mrbrownshows!
I took a less than satisfactory article about CPF. CPF debate isn't really my forte, and though it had something to do with human resource management, I can't shape my arguments objectively based just on facts I learned from the course. Anyway, background information, the Singapore government recently announced plans to push back the withdrawal age of CPF money from 62 to 65, and people have to buy some sort of insurance after 65, which starts to pay-out after you have hit 85. The big question then comes, what happens if you don't hit 85? Also, with regards to insurance protection, the pay-out is better if you purchased earlier. (Of course that meant you have funded it longer, but usually insurance company uses even bigger pay-out to attract customers) Same mentality on why fixed deposit could give higher interests rates.
Also, something to note is that this isn't the first time the withdrawal age have been pushed back. It had been done some time ago to push the age of withdrawal from 55 to 62. One of the sentences in one of the mrbrownshows really hit hard on this fact. "You have waited 30 years, you can wait another 10." Maybe I am a little biased since I sort of learnt the fact from the site itself, but at this day and age, pushing the withdrawal age back is just insulting old people's intelligence, with regards to saving money for retirement and expenses control. Nevertheless, see that the intention behind the government policies were good, and I am sure some people want to work till 65.
Kind of did super-elite critic, because I finished the 500 words in less than an hour. See, frequent blogging does have its benefits. You can have a free-flow of ideas and things to say and sometimes even know how to phrase them for some desired effect. Then I felt a little happy, but the worse is not over yet. I still have to hand-up right? So how am I going to hand up without a copy? E-mail it to her? Nope, I don't want the lecturer to do extra work. At the point of time, I really can't stand it any longer and decided to have an hour's nap. Some sleep is better than no sleep.
Since I told you I both mentally and physically cannot stand it any longer, naturally I snoozed my alarm when I was supposed to wake at 8a.m.. (to get up in time for 9 a.m. SSB lesson, skipping the 8a.m. lecture). Waited until the absolute maximum that I was allowed, and started frantically copying the thing by hand. I know I did Maths revision where I forced (punished) myself to copy the lecture notes through once, and my hand-writing speed improved a lot since then, but it wasn't enough to get 500 words done on time. I went to bath and as usual, knocked on my neighbour's door to find that he's still frantically doing his critic. We're in the same boat, and he seems to be in a worse off condition than me.
I arrived at the class around 40 minutes late, (I am horrible, I know.) and I had to take the front door again. I didn't feel that it was polite to come in from the back door. Once again, I project a very negative outlook of myself. I was with slightly more than one hour sleep, my eyes couldn't even open, am coughing lots with weakened immune system, my head tilts back in need of sleep once in a while, definitely not energetic at all. I think I am going to speak poorly and answer questions poorly. All these don't need be if I wasn't in a position to meet a deadline. Regrets. What is even more sad, I see people handing the thing up in nice cover page with the NUS logo, and nicely cut-out and stapled the article. The NUS logo thing was a little bit of overkill, but I don't think I can copy out the article and still make it on time for class. I stare blankly at my piece of A4 foolscap paper, (same one that I used for something in ACJC, the writings were in pencil so I erased them off and saved a paper) written in one of my best handwritings in weeks. Well, it was just a disaster, I don't even want to talk about what happened during lesson.
It wasn't all that bad though, there were some nice things about the lesson. =) I was facing a few pretty ladies. They sort of gave me the strength to push on. After the lesson, I stoned again, in extreme sadness and tiredness. I couldn't get myself to move in that state, and dreadfully dragged myself to the lab. Luckily it was nearby, or else I guess I'll die. The question is easy enough, but there's a catch. If you do a linear search, you will fail most of the test cases. My brain wasn't in a mode to think. I did a linear search using my common sense. I guess the only way to fail is to fail by time-out, if they give me a worse case scenario. I implemented the worse possible implementation, but it was one which I had confidence in my syntax. Sure enough, I never encountered any compilation error. I hope they didn't catch that I did my code purely in C, and not C++.
Ended early actually, since my code works, and I couldn't think of the other way to solve the question, code it, and still submit in time. Someone finished in 30 minutes and went to rush out of the lab. Maybe he gave up? We wouldn't know, but he sort of became the hero, and everyone kind of improved their typing speed phenominally. I got my working copy like 15 minutes after that and stoned. Tried to beautify my code with comments, indentations, implementing a sort function that I didn't eventually use to hopefully gain some compassion marks should my code fail. Hungry, tired and sleepy. Really hungry, really tired and really sleepy. I am getting gastric pains from all the no sleep + stress. Need to rush to nearest canteen for quick remedy.
Technically, Business canteen is equidistance with Arts canteen. Arts canteen won because the auntie always give me extra extra rice when I ask for extra rice. Plus I really miss the ketchup sausages. I rushed to get a plate and a seat for myself. I was looking down at my rice all the time, but when I suddenly looked up, I saw Alina. (I cheated, I checked the yearbook for her name) It didn't help the situation when I was wearing my ACJC Fun-O-Rama T-shirt 2004. I bet she has one too. She smiled wide, so I said hi from the two tables apart distance. I guess she didn't know how to react either. So I spent the rest of lunch looking in any other direction except front. Deep down, I am still a shy person, even though the desire to know her better was very high. It's funny how we were brought together by fate, being in the same JC and all, and we still don't know each other. It's funny how we could smile to each other, but couldn't recall where we met before. It's something I want to end, but it didn't help that her friend eventually came.
Minus factors. I don't know her well, just saw her a lot in ACJC, and saw her a few times in NUS Arts canteen. (Maybe she's an Arts canteen fan?) Therefore, our conversation topics are going to be limited. I guess she's from Arts too, and I don't think I have enough common sense to strike up a conversation with them, me being a person from Engine. Then her friend came, so it's now harder to strike up conversations, since naturally, she'll talk to her friend more. Since I am less interested in her friend, being another random person that I see, I naturally will have less to talk to her, but I don't want to be biased! (It would be an irony that one day, I might see her somewhere, and want to know her better, because I see her around in NUS) Lastly, did I told you I was really banged up? I looked really bad, worse than a zombie that's awake. I quickly finished my two plates of rice in a record 15 minutes, and while she was not looking, I dashed away.
I found out there's a water fountain in Arts canteen. It brought back memories of good old Boarding School days and Basketball days. The two water-coolers outside near the basketball courts were the coolest I ever had, and it doesn't matter the volume of people queueing up for it, it will always be cool and refreshing. To a certain extent, I think it's even colded than ice water with a lot of ice. I adopted the Arts canteen one as my latest favourite. =) Therefore, Arts canteen is also now my favourite canteen! (Sigh, I didn't want to exercise favouritism.) It just feels more rewarding to eat here, with the ketchup sausages, water-cooler and all. It's just what the Engine canteen lacks.
Then began my downfall for the week. I went home for a supposed 1 hour nap. I woke up around four hours later, completely didn't hear the double alarm I set for myself. Go figures, I am super tired. The past week have been one riddled with mid-term tests, deadlines and unfortunate incidences. I skipped Maths tutorial, for the first time. I know this will mark severe downfalls in the time to come, but I still really really want to do well for Maths. Maybe copying the lecture notes a second time would help. Then I decided I should sleep until I wake up, which I predict would be somewhere in the early morning. Sigh, I woke up at 8 plus and couldn't fall asleep again. That makes my total sleep time around 6 hours only. Not enough sleep, but cannot sleep more. Sigh.
Decided to drown my sorrows with Maple Story, but it was just a waste of time, due to the NUS network conditions. Couldn't do much, and I didn't meet any target, because I was too stressed to work. Anyway, I had previously decided to not sleep the whole night through in view of the enormous amount of work I have to hand in the next day. It included a lab! But by 7 a.m. in the morning, I was too tired to continue. I really need the one hour nap. This one hour nap tactic had worked before, but I guess not when I am overly tired like this. Overslept the first tutorial, and it was ok, because the second tutorial is non-existent this week only. So if I oversleep one tutorial, I get two additional hours of rest. However, I next woke up at around 11+, where my third tutorial is going to end. Sigh I should just wake up for lab.
I did wake up for lab though, but I realized in my mind, my mental preparation was for the wrong lab. This lab, there's a deadline, and there's a circuit to build before going for it. I had thought this lab would be a programming lab. Hmmm, going there without doing any work is terribly bad, considering the very bad experience last week already with using less than desirable tools. Therefore, I am here, accidentally skipping later part of Thursday and the whole of Friday. Now what should I do for today? I should do work since I won't be free to do so during the weekends.
Overall, I still had a good week, and I didn't feel that guilty or bad skipping Friday because, Saturday is Hari Raya, it's a public holiday, and the past week had been fully used to study for mid-term exams and meeting deadlines. I thank time for passing by slowly this week, which means I have done more in less time. Thank you very much, and may you always pass by slowly from now and forevermore. =)

Feeling good! =)
I woke up today with this feeling that better things are coming my way again. Though I haven't managed to do much Maths revision, I hope and pray that I'll be awarded good results just based on the effort that I put in. =) I really really hope! Well, I woke up and it's raining again, very nice to listen to music. Not to mention the level of light is totally a new experience for this time of the day. Lastly, I woke up completely dry, not a drop of sweat to be found anywhere.
Woah, I might be a little slow in reading the news, but Marion Jones had admitted to 'doping'. All these while I thought she was innocent. As I read the list of banned athletes on Wikipedia, the long list just seem to project a very grim image of sports. Heh, one of my favourite Olympics, the Sydney 2000, has been severely tainted. In other news, Formula One Hamilton got stuck in a gravel trap in his 31st lap, leaving Raikkonen to finish first, and Alonso second. Competitions just got tighter as all three of them are currently leaders with Hamilton 107 points, Alonso 103 points and Raikkonen 100 points.
As I do my last minute revisions for Maths, I really really sincerely hope that I'll do well for it. I really need to do well for it.

Rainy days =)
I woke up today and it started raining. Though I didn't have the most fantastic sleep last night, I realized I didn't sweat throughout the night! =) Suddenly getting all emotional and listening to what I call 'rainy day music', a practice that I have had since a long time ago. Rainy days are thinking days. Suddenly got reminded of the image of myself staring out of the room windows at ACS(I) Boarding School while listening to music. =) Many many thoughts are running through my head. I shall work hard today. I should make my blog my study companion for a subject that I have struggled with for a long time.
Things to do today:-
-Do a lot of laundry.
-Neaten up my place. =)
-Finish tutorial 1-5 of Maths.
If have extra time:-
-CS1102C lab.
-EE2006 tutorials.

My adventures of Week 7
Is it week 7 or week 8? It's week 8 if you count the mid-semester break as an academic week. Besides I had lab right? I chose to count it as week 7, because all my labs that are on alternate weeks count this week as off, with the only exception being programming labs. I think they are so all over the place that even the lecturers themselves are confused. I now just look at deadlines, and not the actual lab date itself.
Coming off a good rest from the past week to tackle my rest of semester. Re-evaluating the half semester that have passed, I have not been as productive as I should. I am still clueless about a lot of things, though I believe things are coming to a change. This week is my most hardworking week. I managed to use most of my free time to study or do work, though some of my free time was used to appreciate music. =) Hmmm. I am human. A very emotional human.
Gu Dan Bei Ban Qiu by Fish Leong. =)
Nuan Nuan by Fish Leong. =)
I don't know what's the title. Fish Leong. =)
Yue Ding by Guang Liang. =)
Sometimes, I get so emotional and absorbed appreciating music, that I couldn't bear to leave until I hear everything from start to end. Therefore, I have been an hour late for my two hour Maths lecture a week on two accounts this week. It was similar, I was extremely early, and yet I didn't feel the rush to be there on time. I was late, but I didn't feel the need to be early. I just feel a need to be with music at that point of time.
Work and travel USA. I spent quite a bit of time doing my research. The outlook of being able to earn money looks grim. At most, we make a small profit on the three months. Therefore, it was clear the direction was not to work, but rather to travel. Work was there to make the entire package sounds more attractive. Therefore, my intention was to select the place that I am going to visit based on attractions, and not on the work benefits. I ended up selecting choices that are the same as my friends, as they all wanted to go all in a group. Hey, might as well, since then I'll be killing three birds with one stone. Work, travel, and getting to know friends better. All in one package. The only problem is, money.
I went to pay my deposit anyway, since I got excited about it. Never in my life I thought that I would end up there, though I might want to see the place for experience. Maybe in the future, but at least not the near future. That alone is enough to bring a lot of excitement. Anyway, my first choice is somewhere near Cleveland. Unfortunately though, during the summer it's offseason. Sigh, I was so close to watching an NBA match live. Nevermind, maybe Lebron might go to the amusement park or something where I work and maybe he'll sign me an autograph. Of course, the next exciting factor would be the weather there. Unfortunately, I heard that in summer, there isn't a very big difference between the temperatures there and here. Someone told me it's 90 F there, which is around 32 C, which is the same as here lately.
Wednesday, did work for the earlier part of the day, went out to Clementi to get my cutter/pliers set, since the IEEE club didn't manage to hold a sale. Got a cheap one from NTUC after walking around in the whole of Clementi. It wasn't like the dream pair that I had in mind or want though. In the end, didn't manage to allocate time to do the Maths tutorial that I really need to do. The sprain on my left ankle is finally getting a little better, though it still pains me to walk. At least it wasn't swollen like it was on Sunday. I noticed there are a lot of blood clots under the skin on the right part of the ankle. I have decided to play anyway, since it is Wednesday. My playing day has now changed to Wednesday night instead of Friday night, though I still try to play on both days, reason being I am probably extremely tired from lack of sleep on Friday night, and need the sleep.
Got the drift in the first few games, and I scared myself with my own accuracy. It was very good, so much so that whenever I get the ball and am open, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot. Chances are very high that it's going in. It didn't help the opposition when most of our players are shooting very accurately. We were on a winning streak! I think somehow, the chemistry between the team I was in was very good. Our rotation could find someone in an open spot, who quickly release the open shot. We started losing after one of our members from KE VII hall, had a cramp and had to ask for substitution. I heard bananas help to reduce this kind of thing, and I don't mind eating more bananas as well.
For the first time in a very long time, I actually find playing basketball a drag. I don't know why. It felt as if I had been playing for the whole day at around 10+. I would usually play till 11+ and still am asking for more. Maybe I already had an overdose? Would this mean I'll be staying away from basketball for a while? That may be good for my ankle. Anyway, I didn't feel the pain while I was playing, and it came back to haunt me after I finished. I must say, cold Meiji fresh milk after a long and tiring basketball game feels heavenly. It tastes extra good at that point of time. It beats cold can drinks, and it's healthy. Someone told me I should experiment with Gatorade. =)
The weather this few days is unbelievable. It's very very very hot. I can't believe that I am sweating only minutes after a cold shower. It must be something wrong with the weather. I can't believe I am sweating while having two fans blowing full blast at me, with the windows and door wide open. I searched for online weather forecast and I think I am beginning to not believe them. It's ranging from 25-32 almost every day. I believe it's at least 35 in my room. Not to mention it's only getting hotter. I then look forward to rain, since I cannot remember when I last felt cold in room. It was near this time of the year, where it was rainy season and rained almost every day. I checked the weather forecast and it says it's going to rain on Friday. I am so looking forward to Friday. =)
Thursday Oct 4. My mother should turn 39 today, if she's still alive. Tapping on the energy, I went on strong around for the whole day. Managed to be only 15 minutes late for my SSB class. Though I missed most part of the presentation, I guess it was a good start. Was supposed to at least try my Maths tutorial. I just can't find the strength to start on it. I went on to do other work. In the end, was late for my 2 hours Maths lecture by about 1 hour. I can't believe I cannot do simple Maths. All the mistakes piled up. Anyway, as usual, at the end of Thursday, I would be very very tired. At night again, went on to do work, but then again, work never ends. There are just too much. There's 3 tutorials to attempt, one tutorial to hand-up. Everyone I know is thinking of not going to hand up to study for the upcoming test in Saturday.
Friday! It's supposed to rain. Anyway, I woke up to find the pillow wet, from sweat. Imagine how hot it must be. I must have bathed at least 5 times with cold water throughout the day, just to sweat minutes after doing it. It's frustrating and irritating, and I am starting to think air-conditioned room is a good investment. I kept on sweating non-stop. Was overly tired in the morning, and was snoozing all alarms possible until I was almost late. Since I was tired, naturally I started to move slow, and bathed slow, and overuse time. I only managed to reach the tutorial place like 30 minutes after it's started. I have decided to not go for it, and be early for the next one. Yeah, the amount of fear is increasing by the weeks. Why can't I get enough time for myself to do all the tutorials? C++ tutorial was a little easier.
Had lecture then EE2006 lab too. At first, I was pretty excited, and think that I am absolutely going to have fun doing it. Unfortunately, the experience was spoiled by not so good tools. My cutter comes with the pliers. While it works, it's definitely not sharp. I kept breaking those super fine wires since it's not sharp and I have to use more force and when I use more force it breaks. I can't believe how bad I was at doing that even after so many years of experience from MR. At the same time, I envy those with good tools, and wonder where they get them from. A cutter is definitely on my next to buy list, and hopefully I'll get a good one. I am still very excited about this design project. I better come up with a way to do it soon. I was terribly terribly slow. There are people leaving the lab after around an hour or so, and I sat there three hours and only managed to implement the power supply. I spent time lowering my morale by kept failing the cutting part, and realize that the amount of wires I have are getting less and less.
Now come the time to think of an attack strategy for CS1102C mid-term test. Should I stay up all night and study? I suffer from a lack of sleep for Friday and needed to get some sleep. Initial plan was to sleep from after school till around 11, then study till the test is over. I ended up doing something else, and was still awake at 11. I become desperate, since sleeping is definitely not an option, because I have too little knowledge up there to survive through it. Also, I initially planned to do the practice paper before the actual thing. If I slept, all would have been in vain. I spent time until around 2a.m.. helping CS1101C people. Then I had supper and all until around 4a.m.. At this point of time, I was really sleepy, and was evaluating the need for coffee. I decided not, since the weather is so hot. A few of us here are leaving their door open and am still sweating all night through. By 5.30a.m.., I managed to complete two chapters, but was too tired, so I thought I'll take an hour's nap.
I set alarm all the way until the paper and was glad I did so. When I finally woke up due to the alarm, it was 8.30a.m.., and I had a terrible headache. I moved slowly again, but strangely, though I know I was terribly late, I don't feel the rush to need to get there. The bus services aren't as frequent on Saturday morning, so I ended up catching an A2 instead when I am actually going to MPSH. Went there the long way around, and still didn't feel the rush. Slowly walked in. I think it's very important to keep the cool during papers, or else it's hard to score. Wai Hong is so brave, he only managed to get to MPSH at 9.20a.m., when the paper starts at 9 a.m.. No matter, Wai Hong proceeded to finish the paper on time, and even faster than most people can. I thought the paper was quite easy. Must have been because I was helping the CS1101C people. I got so good at the MCQs I could point to the right answer in a few seconds. I would have aced the CS1101C paper. I then went on to ace the CS1102C MCQs.
Seriously, I think the paper was not that difficult. If not, I couldn't have managed. Then I went home to get my beauty sleep. Helping others was really helping yourself! Before I slept, it would have been don't know how many times of the day I bathed in cold water. I woke up 30 minutes after I fell asleep to find that my pillow is wet again. My neck is full of sweat. Hello, there's two fans blowing me. Now I am angry at the weather forecast. It said chances of showers with thunderstorm, meaning some serious rain. I checked again now. It's supposed to rain everyday in the afternoon until Tuesday. I am so looking forward to that. Also, it's supposed to have heavy rain on Saturday night. I waited and waited and waited, and all I got was a 10 minutes drizzle. Better than nothing I guess. Lastly, I felt that I have been a good student this week, solely because I think I did well in my CS1102C tests. The last thing I need is disappointment. =)
