Sorry for the one-day lapse in entries. I was a little happy with the paper yesterday and then was mentally tired so I had to rest my mind. Ate Mcdonald's for a little celebration. Somehow it was a battle well-fought, because I knew how to do 4 questions out of the 16 compared to 1 question out of the 16 last semester. Also happy because I probably do not need to subject myself to Maths module anymore. Actually come to think of it, I can do it, just that I need more time to start getting myself to practice Maths everyday again.
The road towards finally meeting the paper was actually a painful one. You know you are desperate when you are watching your webcast lectures at play speed of 1.2. Actually wanted higher, but then the lecturer's speech would be too incoherent as a result of being too fast. Even 1.2 is pushing it, but I don't have much of a choice. My time is running out. I seriously don't want to repeat this module next semester. Maybe that drove me to the moral victory? Aside from that, another moral victory that I won this semester as compared to the last is that I absolutely have enough sleep. I have been sleeping an excess of 10 hours everyday since the study break started. I am beginning to think that those dark rings around my eyes lessened.
Someone's MSN nick reads 'Never have I felt so screwed up in my entire course. I felt like crying after the exams for the first time. Help me!'. All I have to say is, lucky thing. I have had my share of that a few times already. You're so lucky you are just experiencing it for the first time! One of the more recent ones involve the CS1101C practical exam. I was feeling extremely helpless, because there is nothing I can do. I hope I don't deserve getting a big fat zero, but such is life, I can't do a thing to prevent myself from getting a big fat zero. Reflecting back, maybe there was some mistakes in my attempt that day. My first moral defeat would be I studied the whole night through just to make sure I'll score maximum possible mark. I wanted to get at least a good score real badly. Which is what I think led to my second moral defeat. I wanted it too badly.
My arms and feet were shaking, though I don't really feel it, I guess my body fears the paper. Had gastric pain in the morning too, and it usually comes when you're stressed. I agree my very early morning breakfast wasn't that fantastic, but it should be enough to keep me from gastric pain till at least lunchtime. It was two McChicken(s) at around 4 a.m. plus, since I managed to call them just before breakfast hours. There were great! Not the mention they are priced at $2 as an everyday saver. $2 for a burger was of course expensive, but looking on the bright side, even Ramly burger cost $2.5 these days here. That makes me oh-so-miss those RM2 juicy Ramly burgers in KL. Back to I am scared and not scared of the paper at the same time. I am not scared, at least not in the mind, since I have studied and did everything possible to ensure I would at least score a good mark. My body would like to tell me otherwise though, my legs were shaking and feeling wobbly with every step I took. My hands don't have the steady hold it used to have. My body is just not following my instructions.
coach Jeff Van Gundy of the Rockets said that this morning. Rockets star Tracy Mcgrady was so nervous "driving to Houston's first round playoff game against Utah his palms were sweating. The seven-time All-Star had bigger problems than excessive perspiration when he got on the court as he missed his first six shots and had just one point at halftime." That was this morning, around 6 hours ago, in an article from AP. He managed to overcome that after he repeatedly told himself to calm down during halftime. He then went on to lead a few Rockets run with back-to-back baskets and finished with 23 points, and yay!, Rockets won. Unfortunately for me though, there was no half time. It was real-time, so I couldn't even go to toilet if I wanted to maximize my time. Rockets lead 1-0 in a playoff series against Utah.
In other NBA news New Jersey Nets, a team that I support, won Game 1! Of course Vince Carter got lots of jeers and boos heading into the Raptors home-court as their former star. Fortunately for the Raptors though, they have a new star, Chris Bosh. However, that just isn't enough since Nets also feature Jason Kidd, and a Rising Jefferson (oops, was his name Richard Jefferson?! =p). Jefferson was exceptionally great for the past few games, and he finished with 28 points. Jason Kidd had 8 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds. Carter also added 15. Was thinking if Nenad Kristic had not been injured, and Kidd more on target, the Nets are a formidable force. Also if Kerry Kittles isn't so injured that he no longer plays anymore for the Nets.
Come to think of it, I always dream of achieving great things, but never get down to doing them because frankly, I don't even know if I am heading in the right direction. Take for example my long overdue MUD client project, I have not yet gathered enough knowledge to know what to do next. All I know when I want to work on the project is I don't know a thing, I don't know what to do next. If I knew, I could at least do some work. I am also hardly focussed, being riddled by the twin demons, procrastination and distraction. I have other plans and dreams as well, and I dream of a lot of things. I had plans to get gym membership and start a regular training programme. My ultimate goal out of this is of course to play better basketball and get injured less. Also to keep fit, since as it stands, all my muscles are horribly weak already.
However, all these are something hard to balance. With strength, I may lose flexibility, and I am already running low on flexibility. In addition to that, I should probably condition my lungs first, so some aerobic exercises should be in order before I could dash to the gym. Running would be the best, but it is extremely hard to keep to a good running schedule. It also keeps your body and mind dead tired for the next day, at least in my case. I believe it's because my body is not well-conditioned in the first place and that is why I feel these aftermaths. However, getting it be well-conditioned in the first place is another story, which meant that I would have to persevere through some time of feeling these aftermaths. After a while, I'll put my running schedule on hold, especially when a test or exam is coming up. I need the mental power for tests and exams, and after I have done them, it would be like starting my running programme from square one again.
Just some of my dreams, and I still have lots, for a better planet Earth. An old Chinese saying goes, 'You're trying to be too smart too soon.', but I believe there is no such thing. Bill Gates wrote your hard drive file allocation table when he was 16. He also wrote the first version of Microsoft Windows before 25. I need more knowledge so that I can apply them sooner. Our time here is limited right? For now, MUD client project would be put on hold, but I'm working on it. Until I figure out what to do next. Speaking about working on, I dropped by mrbrown's blog earlier in the morning, and seemed like they are having office Dota competitions. He said he's always first blood. Note that that means he's the person to be killed first in every game, not the person who kills first. He says he's working on becoming second person to be killed and is making progress.
Our time here is limited. However, only having a degree is not going to give you any edge or enough knowledge to actually work on a full commercial standard program by yourself. You have to go Masters at least, and by the time you actually got enough knowledge to do so, you realize either you don't need this piece of software that you were dying to write anymore, or couldn't write as many as you wished too. Most good programs probably took the writer a few months long. Most commercial game projects, worked on by paid professionals, take two years to actually reach the market. That being said, I wonder how many useful working programs can one write in a lifetime. It's just comforting to look at sourceforge and discover all the programs that were making headlines everyday. Nice to know someone is working on it. With that I pondered a new dream shift. I want to not do double work and not write something that other did before. So there's no use writing another OS, another media player, etc. Those things are abundant, and most of them work fine. So now I am in a dilemma on what to do for my coding hobby.
Decided to stop dreaming for a while and realize that I still have 4 papers in the short run to finish. At this moment I am still hopeless for them, except for probably programming and Physics. Once again, I am hoping for divine intervention. At least this time around I am not as stressed, and probably can function normal for studying. I have stopped playing basketball for a while now, and glad that those excess energy have been channeled back into studying. Which once again brings me back to it is extremely hard to keep on a good training schedule. However, I am hopeful, this coming holidays. It's three months, and I still have targets and goals from last eight months holidays that I still haven't fulfilled.
No more time. No more time. No more time. I can't stress this any better. It also means that my long awaited holidays are coming soon. I didn't know Singaporeans have to pass IPPT until they are 40 years old. Well, look on the bright side, that's an easy400 dollars if you are zhai. I need to do my training as well. I have procrastinated long enough. I have decided to get a gym membership. Time to go take a peek at the gym. Here is today's 6.30 a.m. picture! =)
Officially entered emergency mode. Going to bed now, but before that, I am stunned by the fact that even if I had spent all my time to watch webcast lectures until the paper, I wouldn't be able to finish all the lectures. In addition, I haven't started making my A4 paper with all my formulas yet. I need divine intervention or something to that extent. I need to pass Maths. Can I rely on my intelligence alone to pass? This one taken this morning at 7a.m.. Why didn't I transfer immediately? Because I am too lazy to take out the transfer cable after packing it up nicely.
Maybe I should edit those photos and zoom in only on the important parts. I didn't know my USB cable also charges my phone through the laptop. Discovery. Maybe I will start charging my phone through the laptop one of these days. Save me the trouble of plugging in multiple plugs.
My exams will come to pass in around 9 days. My first paper is less than 2 days away, but I actually only have 24 hours because the other 16 should be used for sleeping. I wonder what would be my best option to salvage as many modules as possible. Well, I am sort of a sentimental person, and for a long time, I have dreaded the day of which my year 1 will end. Though it was not as lively and fun as my JC days, I must admit it was a year quite well-lived. An academic year I mean. After all, I am here to learn, not only book knowledge, but also life experiences. Of course, I am always plagued by distractions, but I would do my best every sem to improve from the one before.
Trying to walk around to see things about this place I am familiar with but hopefully from a new perspective that I have never seen before. I noticed it sometimes make you more appreciative of what you already have. Pictures are taken on my phone's 2 megapixel camera. Not very fantastic, but enough details I guess. The colour aren't as good as what I see with my eyes too, but I guess as long as it works, I shouldn't complain. After all, having one camera is better than none.
Pictures from my room taken on 1st April 2007, approximately 6.30 p.m..
Well, reason why I took those photos were because the sky was looking really nice. Guess the picture really doesn't do justice to the beautiful sky on that day. How about the following one taken on 15th April 2007 at 6.30a.m..
I swear the reddish orange colour was more beautiful than the one that could be captured. Unfortunately too, I don't have a zoom function. Rock on, I still have 9 more days before it's the end of time. I even started planning what I am going to do after the exams. It's 3 months! A long awaited holidays. I didn't manage to do everything I wanted to do during the 8 months holiday but now I am more motivated than before, and manage to filter out more distractions than before. For now, save my Maths. Don't repeat it next semester, because I don't see that I am going to do any more well than I would do this sem.
On the other hand, it was such a beautiful morning. It's raining! All nice to sleep. Rainy days are thinking days.
Haven't felt so energetic in a while. Maybe I am high from listening to up-beat songs. Maybe because it's finally I am getting enough food and sleep. Rock on, study break! I shall study everything at the same time rather than focus on a particular module, while the burst of energy is still here!
Some things that I have wanted to put on my blog for a long time but I kept forgetting. Hey, the time between 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. is the best time to view streaming videos. It's the only time of the day they don't lag. So you can just click on any streaming videos and watch rightaway. I do watch some NBA online clips from their site, but it is just too slow during the day. Besides, the weather is cool, best for doing anything, including studying.

No rest in between. I am so dead. I am less than 3 days to the doomsweek. I am currently looking to fail 3 modules. Can I make all of them a pass in 3 days? Look on the bright side, I'll be enjoying my holidays in 10 days time. With every sem passing, I am smarter than the sem before, therefore, I think I might do better than the last time.
Been doing a lot of thinking in the past few hours, when I am supposed to be studying. Actually spent most of the time reading blogs. It all started from one interesting entry and you go on to read about all the episodes in another person's life (provided if it's interesting), much like a TV drama to which you eagerly want to know the ending. Thankfully though, with every passing day, they will have another new episode to tell. Gaining somewhat biased life experience.
I decided not to catch up with the 'lost' post for the starting point of April. I shall start with what's fresh in my mind. Totally screwed up my bio clock lately, and it is the worst possible kind of screw-up. My sleep times are now around 11 a.m. - whenever I wake up. I cheer the study break because this is something nice. I sleep when I am tired, and wake whenever I want. The only trouble is the period between 4a.m. to 8a.m.. There's no food if you happen to be hungry, but the laundry is completely empty, which means I can get my favourite machine every time.
Just to make sure I haven't completely lost track of time, it was the morning of Monday April the 16th. I went to Clementi in the morning, and everything worked the way I wanted them to work. Walked around and seen things that were there went disappearing. The cinema and the nice arcade near the cinema is no more. The nice Japanese restaurant there is no more too. I wonder if the internet cafe is still in operation. Bought lots of supplies, and had a really nice breakfast, after enduring the long morning without food. I just got reminded I need to play basketball at night. I told myself not to play basketball until my last paper is over, and I am going to violate it. I haven't played since two fridays ago? So considering I woke up at 11p.m., I need to sleep before 11a.m. to have enough rest before playing game at 7+.
The problem is, I want to be in tip top condition to play ball right? I just violated it by carrying heavy plastic bags and wait forever for that bus that never came. I hope my arms wouldn't be shaking when I reach my room. Anyway, exerting the arm shouldn't be done within 1 or 2 days of playing a game. It really throw your shooting percentages down when your arm shakes. I was a little careless already since it was almost my bedtime. I dropped my 2 litre bottle of milk, and I dropped my tub of ice-cream. Coupled with a hot morning sun, the tub begins to leak. Blah, so by the time I reached my room, I couldn't even bother to wash the tub. It's a real mess in the plastic bag already. I then decided to put the whole plastic bag into the freezer, hoping that the mess would be easier to clean when it is frozen.
I decided to be really hardworking all of a sudden. I passed by the laundry and saw that my favourite laundry machine is empty, yay, I need to wash. Then I have to not sleep for one hour while waiting for the machine to complete it's cycle. It was a ridiculously hot morning, so I decided to clean my fan. By the time I finished washing my whole fan and vacuum my table, there's still 30 minutes till the wash cycle finishes. I have decided to vacuum my table since my laptop is kept, which is a rare thing. Then I realized the part where my laptop always rest is stained a little darker than the rest of the table. Time for some Dettol action!
Ok, I only have one rough cloth to do all the cleaning, so before I have distribute work in a way such that everything will get done. When the cloth is dry, I have decided to clean the windows with Magiclean. Actually bad idea, because I use my right hand all the time, and I need it to shoot later. Even cramped the muscles in it once when I was trying very hard to reach the bottom of my glass facing outside. My arm just isn't long enough. Then I finally Dettol my table. Yay! The stain's gone. I just started my whole pail of diluted Dettol, so I am not going to waste them. The wash cycle is completed, but I have decided to throw in some more clothes to wash, even those that are actually clean. Mainly going out shirts. So then I gave myself another hour of wash cycle.
Cleaned the big fan, and the amount of dust on it is legendary. One reason why cleaned fans doesn't equal a cooler room. It's blowing hot air. The only cool air I get is when I open my door and let in wind from my door. Don't know why wind from the windows aren't cool either. More things to Dettol. Wanted to Dettol my floor, but before that, I have to vacuum it first. There again, I use my right hand to hold the vacuum cleaner, and my left hand hold the almost weightless nozzle. Otherwise it would be rather inefficient. Time is running out now. I need all the time I can get. I also used my right hand to wipe the large fan and to dry the cloth of dripping water after every trip to the pail. I wonder where my left hand comes into the picture. By the end of everything, my room is squeaky clean but it's 5p.m..
They said that they are going to play basketball at 6p.m., so I set my alarm clock to 6. Blah, it's hard to fall asleep with the super bright evening sun, but I fell anyway since I was really really tired. I woke up at 6, so super tired, and no message from Jason, so I set the alarm clock to 7 and sleep again. No message still, woke up, set my alarm clock to 8. Message timed at 7.20, asking me if I would like to join for dinner, but when I woke up it was already 8, so I decided to pass, and resume sleeping, putting the alarm clock to 9. Woke up at 9, not by my alarm clock, but by a call from Jason. And another message timed 8.04, saying they are starting. So I am already an hour late. Went to take an instant shower, and rushed down. Around one and a half hour late. Tired and sleep deprived, and weak right arm.
Hoping that I would get the feel and magic, but nothing of that sort. I have commited so many crimes I didn't know which one was responsible. I was shooting blanks all night. Throwing bricks. I couldn't control my shot. I don't even know roughly where my shot is going to end up after release. There's a funny feeling during release that I get as if I have just worked through the gym. I kept thinking that I would accidentally use extra energy (the balls seemed lighter), so I'll adjust and use less energy instead. Turned out I was wrong, and since I couldn't control it at all, I'll just throw it up and hope that it somehow drops in but most of the time it was short because of the negative adjustment. Decided to not adjust, then it would be overpowered. Maybe it's the one week plus without a game, maybe it's the heavy supplies, maybe it's the 5 hours of cleaning and maybe it was the sleep deprivation.
Lucky thing though, I didn't have to do much. I have two very tall (at least half a head taller) teammates who were also much more well-built than me. Looks like we just owned the rebounds and they also commited a few tip-ins. Devino have been on target tonight too. That way, we still won most of the games. After the game too, my legs felt like they are going to break. Especially the knee. Hmmm, I never had such 'knee injury' in my long history of playing basketball, other than recently. Is this a sign of getting old? Or maybe I am just not landing properly on my jumps?
It all started with a little dose of Mrbrown show. Then it became addictive, since some of them were really humourous. Had a nice time laughing the night off. From then on, I got linked up to another blog, and it was interesting for a while. From here, when it got uninteresting, I got linked up to another blog from the blog I was surfing. This one was a little more interesting, I kept on trying to find out what happened. Maybe they should make his life a movie. I actually read the posts one by one until in the end I have read all, and it left me asking for more. Reading about life and more life make me think deep and more deeply into what I should really do now. Probably my time for Maths is now. This sem might be the last time I am actually taking a Maths module. Must at least pass it at all cost.
What I did before doesn't matter anymore. My time is now, a fresh beginning. What matters from now on is what I do in the next three days. After all, I'll say that my life is pretty interesting. I am going to fail Maths soon, but I still have three full days. Can I at least make that a pass? I am always cheered by the fact that there are people living more screwed life than me. For now, I'll forget my past mistakes, learn from them and move on. Sounds like a simple plan that actually makes sense. My biological clock is ticking, and yet I don't have a life direction. One blink of the eye, I am twenty, and another blink, I will be forty. The picture is really fuzzy right now, as I can't see how I am going to be when I am forty, but I could always see how I could be when I turn twenty. It pretty much doesn't skew much from my actual prediction, except I didn't expect myself to be in engineering and I didn't expect myself to actually start failing.
What should I say? I don't have anything to say, but I want to blog the moment. A feeling of extreme helplessness fell upon me. It was as if my whole world came crashing down. What have I done wrong? I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I don't feel like doing anything.
And I just dropped my phone, for the first time ever. My friend was complaining today he was having lots of bad luck too.
Well, I didn't sleep last night, determined to make a great day, at least some out of my CS1101C Practical Exam. I was on time for most things, and was even early for some. Decided to take a stroll around Science canteen, maybe grab a bite, since I was having a little gastric pain from not sleeping the whole night through. I found a friend and sat at a table in the end, and the pain sort of subsided. I saw someone that I wanted to see for a long time, and she sat just 2 tables away. I am lucky. At least for the moment. Talked a little, tried to sleep a little, and finally the paper. Determined to at least make a good pass, but dang, I got a somewhat inhumane paper.
Spent the whole time sitting in front of the computer doing nothing. All my hard work and effort, gone. I am no genius. I just didn't know that I am that bad. So I thought what I am going to do. I really can't do a thing. I should stop thinking about it, but my mind just kept thinking about it, and I still don't know how to solve it. I didn't even include the header. That was how bad. What am I going to do next? I really don't know. I know I need a good sleep, and it would all be over, like a dream.
