A bright night sky
The weather's great today again, it rained when I woke up. Even though I ran last night which means that I would be sweating like mad today, it was cool enough that I didn't sweat. I loved the cool wind too, but I needed to close my door shortly after because someone else who left the door open started to play loud music!
Even at 10p.m. at night, the sky was still a bright red. It is not the normal darkness that we usually feel. It was bright enough for me to function with my room lights off! Now that gave me a little atmosphere to burn the midnight oil.
Finished my first ever complete working script, and since I am a warrior, and get requests for repairing a lot, now I can afk in peace while still serving all my repair requests. Way to go. This is version 1 and it still had a few limitations.

Limitations of the script/code:-
-I have two hands, but unfortunately, I cannot serve two single-hand repair at the same time. Two person trying to use the service at the same time will cause the first person's repair to fail and the item remain in my hands forever.

Accidental procrastinator
I wonder what did I do today, and by the time I wonder, it is already 10p.m. at night. I wonder why I couldn't do anything academic related. I am convinced that the grave I dug for myself is too deep to recover from. My Maths mid-term is like 2 days from now, and I am stuck at Lecture 4 out of 12. I have lots of deadlines to meet again, but I just cannot bring myself to finish them. What am I doing? I just spent my spare time other than playing doing nothing. I cannot feel the drive to study or practice, while I can find the drive to play and rest.
I need to feel the need to do work. One part of the holiday well spent was that I almost cooked every meal. Feels like I am a Muslim who is doing Puasa this Ramadan. I only eat once a day, but it is all good, because I cook this once and only time in the day. I actually like my own cooking, so that's probably a plus point there. The downside is, I started at 8.00p.m., and by the time I eat finish and washed everything, it's 9.45p.m..
I need a game that does not stress me out. Games are meant for me to have fun, not to pile up the stress on me. Online games are just too competitive. Even though I would rank myself to be slightly above average, it is hard to survive. Such is life, but I don't rank myself to be above average for academic abilities and life skills. I have much to work on. For now, I should either go for a run that totally tires me out or watch another Maths lecture without blinking.
Things I must do tomorrow:-
-Send the agreement home.
-Get some emergency money.
-Buy more supplies
-Mug and practice for Maths

Don't talk cock in parliament
Thanks to Hoa for sending me the link. Need a break there. I realized my post are becoming shorter and shorter, but such is life. As my life is becoming more monotonous, there are nothing much to talk about. You probably don't want to read what I studied as you are stressed enough with your own stuffs already.
Today I went out to 'sign' the tuition grant agreement, but all I did was collect it. I foresee and good day coming since the A2 came when I was there, and then when everyone was whining there was a long queue and took forever, all I took was 5 minutes. By the time I walked back to the bus stop, A1 came and I went home again. I only left my room for slightly less than 30 minutes, while the whole thing could have took more than that.
Here's the video, and it's hilarious if you know a lot about Singapore history. Just a brief recap on Singaporean history:- (Go ACJC!)

Info: Why do today things you can do tomorrow?
Just kidding. But my actions for the past few days have successfully dug my own grave. If you are wondering where I have been missing for the past few days, do not fear, because I am back here. MUD can be a demanding game sometimes, especially after you are guilded. There are a lot of obligations and work to do, and not to mention need to be vigilant all the time against enemy. Hence you guessed it, for the past three days I have been glued to the game. 12 hours on Monday, 13 hours on Tuesday and 15 hours yesterday. How else can you find a more loyal mudder?
Well, the books are waiting for me to hit them. Besides, I still have a lot of other things to do so I actually cannot let my guard down. For that reason, I have decided to hibernate for 3 days starting from today, and so the next time I can log in again will be on Sunday. For the record, I have to go get my tuition grant agreement done. Besides, I have to practice for the upcoming maths test. Not to mention mug for the Materials test. And also practice for the Physics test. Time is precious this few days.
For the past few days, I also had the privilege to cook most of my meals, and though they are not fantastic, I am just happy at the fact that I won't go hungry. I particlarly like some of my own dishes. After all, I make my food to taste like what I like! =) Enough of status report for now. Time to really go and work it out!

Back in the race
Ok, play time's over. I have to keep my head on that I am still running a race here, and today would be Lap 43. After the whole weekend plus today of rest, I need to be back on catching up, as I am now far behind. People are working hard from home, and I need to reset my bio clock to stop missing lectures. I need to focus on the few days ahead, because they are crucial for my survival. Whether I end up tops or down in the drain depends very much on the next few day's work.

Much needed, much awaited
The holidays are finally here, and I cannot describe how elated I am at it. I figured at the end of Friday my face looked real bad, after 2 weeks of self-inflicted torture. I am seriously very mentally tired at the end of Friday, though I finally have a 10 hours sleep. Sleep might have been the problem, as I woke up feeling more tired than if I haven't. From the first look, the Li Feng asked me are you very stressed? I think people can probably see that I looked real bad on Friday.
Did not have the mental awareness to study as well. It was a disaster compared to the statics test the week before. I was able to get nothing into my mind this week instead. By the time morning strike, I was still unsure, not because I didn't get the concepts right, but because I have already forgotten. I have to ask, and when the answers came back I am not sure what they were talking about. Felt totally weird with my messed up bio clock.
The test was sadistic. Game over. Even to those who brought their textbooks and notes and all nonsense, since it was open book, was owned. I figured I would do much better with a book but since I didn't have one, I have to make do. Smoked my way through most of the things. Hopefully I would at least pass, but I am not surprised if I didn't. Think most people are going to fail. I need to learn how to win this, but not now, maybe when I am more sober.
Ok, played lots on the time when I was not sleeping. I slept once the paper was over (Saturday) 5p.m.-3a.m., and the next time I slept was Sunday's 11.30p.m.-11.30a.m.. Time to recharge.
My first ever time getting wanted, and arrest! Spectacular one. Not only the losers couldn't get to us themselves, they enlisted aid of ERs as well. I just take the pride to get arrested by 4 person at a time! =) Seriously, they need to disband, or become an evil guild.

Chemistry notes
Let me remind myself that I am me. A Wai Hong works hard and plays hard. I shall put things that I learnt or re-learnt tonight here.
Fundamental formulas
(delta)U = q + w where U is the internal energy of the system, q is heat supplied and w is work done on system. U is a state function. Hence (delta)U = 0 for a cyclic process.
Entropy
Irreversible reactions - Processes which occur by themselves only in a certain direction (non-spontaneous in one direction)
(delta)w = -P. dv which is easier read as (delta)w = - P(v(final) - v(initial)) or easier remembered as P(v2 - v1) for reversible expansion of gas. Cheat: If you did the integration, you will find that it's actually equal to -nRT ln(v2/v1). Pwn! and q is simply -w. Pwn again!
S = k ln (omega) where S = entropy, k = Bolztman constant (R/Na) and (omega) = number of possible states/configuration. S is a state function. Hence (delta)S = 0 for a cyclic process.
S = qrev/T
Super cheat formula!!!! Qrev = nRT ln (v2/v1) constant temp
Any process
Isothermal, (delta)U = 0
Adiabatic, (delta)U = nCv(delta)T
Constant pressure, (delta)q = Cp(T2-T1)
(delta)S = k ln ((omega)2-(omega)1)
Monoatomic expansion (constant T)
(delta)S = Nk ln (v2/v1)
Monoatomic heating (constant V)
(delta)S = 3/2 Nk ln (t2/t1)
Heat capacity
q = mc (delta)T or q = mc(t2-t1) where m is mass in kg and c is specific heat capacity
Cp - Cv = R
Loads of craps
(delta)H = (delta)U + P(delta)V
(delta)G = (delta)H - T(delta)S
(delta)S = qrev/T = nRln(V2/V1)

38 hours of action
I woke up at around 2.30p.m., on my pitstop day, Wednesday. I went for my MLE tutorial without first doing the tutorial, so I am just pilling up stuffs for me to do during the holiday really. This is bad. However, I felt great, as it was a 12 hours sleep stretch, it should provide me with enough energy to last me through the next day as well. That was why I didn't hesitate to not sleep that night and finish up whatever that I can do as soon as possible.
Wanted to finish the Assignment 1 for EG1413 as soon as possible but that was not possible because I think I may be too stressed. That is why suddenly I need something to release my stress on. I have no games at all on my laptop, and don't think any games will be possible with my kick-ass 8MB video card. No worries anyway, I installed Zmud and started playing. Woo, the warscape's all red, and looks like it is one of those hopeless boots again, but it's not. I peered through the armoury and we have most of the better uniques, including storm bow. The armoury was overflowing with good stuffs, so much so that we have to sell other highly above average stuffs to make space. I tried to make good use of these above average stuffs by golding with them until they break apart. Golding was not that bad. It was decent! Now the warscape's red, but the enemy party disbanded. We just found ourselves a good huge party, and with our good equipments, we retook the lands fast!
From then on, I got high because it was a difficult task, but we were sweeping them clean. We feel like we were the strongest in Arda. From then on, I just try and do my assignment, while ocassionally trying to gold a little when stuffs resets. I was rather distracted, as I was online and there were some people talking to me. My mind was not on the assignment, but I went on as I thought I have to finish the assignment before I can go to sleep. The result, I did not sleep the whole night until morning, with the help of a cup of coffee. Coffee's not cheap! It's $1 per can, so I decided I could only take a max of 1 can per night, unless of course, there is a test the next day.
Got a good chat and caught up with some people on the MUD as well, as I mudded 15 hours in a row. Then I went for the next tutorial (Physics) trying hard to act hyper, but I really got hyper in the middle of it. Survived the next tutorial as well, and then went for lunch, before finally having my EG1413 tutorial. By then, it would be a good 24 hours since I last slept. I felt really tired and don't know what to do. I kind of lagged through lessons. After that was, MLE lecture. Well, you guessed what happened, I fell asleep for an hour. Woke up feeling still kind of tired.
Think I was too stressed with all the deadlines hitting me at one go, and I went to play basketball. I couldn't even score when the feel was right. Guess that is what lack of sleep do to you. Even though I played a bad game, it made me realize once again, that I am me. I am Wai Hong. A Wai Hong work hard and play hard. My initial plan was to catch up on some sleep before doing the work in the morning, but I had a lot of momentum all of a sudden. I feel like myself once again, not tiring even after not having sleep for so long.
I returned to the room, and remembered that I did not eat dinner. I cooked luncheon meat and two eggs, all overcooked but nevertheless tasted nice. Well, when you are hungry, all food are nice. When you are very tired and sleepy, sleeping anywhere is just as nice! Did it slowly and was very glad that I actually have time to myself. Was determined to finish my assignment before I sleep, partly for redemption and partly because I was on fire. Was extremely sleep deprived but yet I feel awake and energetic. I could feel my knees trembling but if you didn't think about it, you wouldn't realize you are sleepy. True enough, I owned the assignment in 2 hours. Even though I was tired, couldn't fall asleep immediately and I don't know why. Finally fell asleep at 4 plus I think. Was very happy.
I actually woke up in time for my tutorial the next morning, but if I went for it, I would have too little sleep, and thoughts of another test the next morning actually scares me. I decided to get more rest, waking up just in time to hand in my almost due assignment. I felt worse waking up than keeping myself awake. Shall try to regulate my sleep time this holidays. My eyes couldn't open though I have had 10 hours of sleep. Seriously, the night before even though I didn't sleep for a long time, it was easier to open my eyes. Now I shall be back to studying my Chemistry. I must own it!
Some surprises on top of thinking that I did a good job with my assignment:-

The kind of September
Lap 37, and it finally didn't rain today. Oh no, two thirds of September have passed, and I must admit the past 5 weeks passed too fast. Time always relative seem to pass faster when I am busy and occupied with a lot of stuffs to do. Looking back, I have been on target so far, never falling too far behind the race. I probably need to do a little restructuring, though my fundamental ideas are right. Am using renewed strategy for most things too! I just have to keep on improving on it.
Must thank Angel for a rather enlightening article. It's at http://www.youngtimes.co.ae/examaid3.htm.
Just excerpts of important parts:-
SLEEP is a basic necessity of life. And when it comes to preparing and appearing for exams, there is no better ally than sleep.
You are not getting enough sleep if:-
-You take longer to get off the bed even after you have woken up.
-You try to snatch a few extra minutes' sleep after the alarm clock has gone off.
-You look forward to catching up on lost sleep.
-You sleep for long hours during weekends.
-You go zzzz during class hours.
-You feel perpertually fatigued.
-You feel like a snooze after meals.
-You doze off to sleep with your book in front of you.
Sleep deprivation -- spot the villains
Now, are you really that hard up for time? What about time wasted early on? Spot the villains who claim your time and rob you of your well-deserved sleep.
Here are some which were true to me (in my case):-
-Social pressures.
-Computer
-The Internet
-Not being able to say 'No'. Many of the obligations you meet and favours you are forced to do are unnecessary. They are time-consuming. (Perhaps I am too nice!)
-You like the idea of keeping awake till late at night, for no apparent reason.
New rules I should follow:-
-Avoid artificial means of keeping awake.
-Avoid intake of caffeine-based beverages at night.
-Do not go to bed with anxiety. (Get rid of anxiety first!)
-Stick to a sleeping schedule. (Now I ban myself from being awake after 12 unless there is a test the next day.)
Now this would really help in restructuting my strategy. Living alone gives me ample opportunity to restructure! =) Hopefully, I can come out with a strategy to beat the rest! I have to win the race at all cost. Still hoping for rain, the past few days have been great to have, and it was almost like a dream come true.

Another unofficial holiday again
Woh, I accidentally skipped another day of school again. If you think I should be feeling great by now, I am not. The thought of accidentally skipping school is horrible. Today marks the first time I hand in work that is not so up to standard. For once, I spent the whole night trying to relearn Hess's Law but didn't manage to calculate it. So I left that part blank. I handed in unfinished work, right near to the end of deadline. Let's get back to how I accidentally missed school.
As you all have remembered, Lap 36 I missed school because I slept all the way till 5p.m.. But sleeping until 5 p.m. means that I am very awake by the time 12 o' clock struck. Besides, I still have yet to finish my lab report. I decided to stay the whole night through till morning, so that I can achieve a win-win situation. I will be able to finish my lab report and still be able to go for my early morning tutorial.
Accidents do happen. I fell asleep at 6.30a.m., and I didn't sleep well because I kept thinking about the fact that I still have yet to finish my lab report. Guess something was just beyond my ability. I will remember it and come back and fight another day. After all, I need my holidays much, with so much work to catch up on. There are a few mid term test coming right up, and I need to study for them, and catch up with Maths, at least, because I am still on Tutorial 1.
I woke up at 9a.m., of which my first tutorial is already half done. By the time I reach there, it would be almost done. I felt so irresponsible! The worse suffering person would be my project mate. Hope he isn't too bored talking to himself down there. Oops, I feel really bad and messed up again. I performed not bad under stress. In two hours time, I played MUD, finished the rest of lab report, and copied my answer for EG1109 onto a new piece of paper to hand up. I then rushed out to hand them all up.
Not bad, the two hours after I woke up was productive. I scratched the 150k mark of my donations to Bkd vault! Guess that's 30% percent done for my targets! Yay, that's hard work. Hopefully reach 250k by end of holidays. From now on, I ban myself from sleeping after 12, unless the next day there is a paper in the morning. =)

Unofficial holiday
I went to sleep at 5a.m., after finishing the laundry. Hope that I will wake up for the lecture at 10a.m., but I won't be surprised if I didn't. The worse part was that I overslept even the lecture at 5p.m.. I woke at 4.45p.m., and that's almost 12 hours of sleep. I must comment that the weather was really nice to sleep, and my alarm clock was still on when I got to it, which means it rang for the full one hour before it stopped ringing. They must invent alarm clocks that would not stop ringing! But that means I will be irritating my neighbour for as long as I remain asleep. However, the weather today was too nice to sleep! It rained again I think!
Nothing much to today. Hopefully I finish all my work and after a weekend of rest, I find that I am behind again. Others have accomplished much more than me in the same period of time. I have been overtaken badly cause I called an extra unnecessary pitstop for Lap 36. Of course I am behind, but should I work till morning again tonight to reclaim my throne? Maybe I should. I am still rather awake now, since I am barely awake for 6 hours. I am sure I could last all the way until the tutorial in the morning. It is followed by lectures anyway. =) Work hard again. I am well rested, time to do that dangerous maneouvre and overtake the rest again. I am probably an owl, since I spend most of my night time working. I realize I hardly work in the morn. That is bad, because I foresee I will not get enough sleep for as long as the semester goes. I will take the holidays to reset my bio clock. Luckily there is a week's break in between. =)
The thought that I am 5 days away from my much needed holidays should push me on!

A brand new day (Thinking day)
Woah, shortly after I woke up, the rain began to pour! Turned on my rainy days playlist. The weather is so nice to continue sleeping but figured I should start working before it all gets too heavy once again. =) What a good way to start my Lap 35.
Target setting:-
Extremely urgent:-
-EG1109 Tutorial 2 Question 3 (more or less done while mugging on Friday night) (1% of total)
-CM1502 Lab report for Experiment 1 (5%-7% of total)
-EG1413 Assignment 1 (21% of total!!!!!!!)
Urgent:- (Must get them out of the way before I can mug for CM1502 mid-term test)
-PC1431 Mastering Physics Assignment 4
-PC1431 Tutorial 3
-MA1505 Tutorial 3 (most likely skip and postpone again =p)
-MLE1101 Tutorial 3
-CM1502 Tutorial 1 (redo)
-CM1502 Tutorial 2
-CM1502 Tutorial 3 plus all additional exercises and past papers
-CM1502 mug for test
-CM1502 do all exercises in textbooks as well
-CM1502 read all 5 textbooks until finish
That's all for today. =)

Just a post before I sleep
Lap 34, a long but short one. Long in a sense I studied statics until morning, and fell asleep under the heavy influence of cafein at around 9.00a.m.. Missing the quiz would be sad since I have prepared so hard for it. Luckily I woke up at 9,15a.m., just in time for the quiz, but I feel weird, lagging and slow. Woah, early morning bus is super crowded! And I arrived there just in time for the quiz. Expected something more, but I think the quiz is fair la. The first question seems like an O' Level question. Too good to be true. I decided maybe I should write a little more than the one line of working I would otherwise write, but I didn't know what to crap. Probably done it in 30 seconds, and gave myself the whole one hour to do question 2.
Under my lagging mind, one hour passed quite fast. Didn't feel like one hour. Felt like only 10 minutes have passed. Was quite glad actually, because I got all my beam reactions correct in magnitude and direction. I would have thought otherwise after so many failed attempts the night before. I am getting close to the beams that were required. Haha, really felt a little high even though I probably failed it. I accomplished something. That made me proud. Time passes really very fast under a lagging mind. Slept for 5 hours before waking again. Think it was the influence of cafein. Even though I was very tired (sleepy), I couldn't continue sleeping. Figured I should wake, or else I would miss my first basketball appointment in 2 weeks.
Went for dinner. Met them. Then we went to play at 8p.m., and it was extremely crowded tonight since most people had tests in the morning, and they have to destress. (Me included) Woah, I only shot in one ball (the first) and went on to miss the many attempts I had for the whole night. Sprained left ankle badly, so no walking around for me. Shall stay in my room to recuperate. Guess I will be out for a week or so. It was fun, though playing with a lot of pain. We were winning most of the way, because I had good teammates! Whee. Excitement. Scoring from difficult angles. Well, after a whole night of playing. We reached our last game which we didn't know will be the last since none of us knew the time. Oops, severe imbalance, but we went on anyway, because the other team were all taller than everyone on our team and they had two team players. Think one was from SRJC.
But we didn't lose. In fact I took all the action. Someone passed me the ball, jump, shoot, and it went in without making a sound. Five times in a row. I feel high. By the time I was supposed to pass the ball in for the sixth play, the lights went off. (Maybe someone know I am going to start missing...) I think I looked totally cool and hot on the court the last game. Jumped higher than usual as well. =) The pain in my left ankle got to me only after resting at the court-side for a while. Lucky it was not swollen in anyway. Me back didn't hurt when I was on the court, even though it did for the past few days. Whee. More excitement. =) Going to sleep for now. Time really passes very very fast!

EG1109 Quiz 1 2006 Solutions
Here are the correct solutions. (I think!)
Q1
clockwise = anticlockwise
4 x F x sin30 = 2 x m x g x sin30
F = 250N
Q2

Ok. At least I got everything correct. But I didn't have enough time to get the required few. In fact, darn it, I got everything except the required few. Picture generated by applet created by people from University of Nebraska. Now is time for my beauty sleep. Click on image to get the full-sized version.
Jia you everyone!
Down and out.

Revelation?
Statics isn't that hard after all, after all, I solved a few questions in a row. However, still a little unsure on most things. I would be okay if it were a simple question. Think it's probably lack of sleep getting to me.
Not sure whether they are correct or not, please help me check.
2004 Quiz 1 my answer
Question 1 - 7.024m
Question 2 - Ax= 80kN, Ay=0kN Dx = 80kN, Dy = 35kN. BE is a zero force member. (highly doubt this but I don't have other good explanations)
2005 Quiz 1 my answer
Question 1 - Tension AE is 247N, Dx = 123.5N, Dy= 88.7N
Question 2 - (Mad trigo) And what the fish? My triangles still don't match after so many hours.
2003 Quiz 1 my answer (the most sadistic paper i think)
Question 1 - Looks easy but lost hope and too tired, still cannot identify zero force members
Question 2 - Too hard.

Just whack!
My very own set of just whack rules!
http://em-ntserver.unl.edu/NEGAHBAN/EM223/note6/note6.htm
From University of Nebraska (no text book, so this probably does the job)
To calculate moment about any point,
1. Take a direction to be positive (clockwise or counter)
2. Calculate moments (use correct signs)!
Remember this, moving a force along a line of action does not change its moment.
Summation of moments = 0
Good old secondary school rule, clockwise moments = anticlockwise moments works!
Cheat formula : rFsin(theta)
Cheat force diagram : JC free body diagram
Cheat moments diagram : The windmill
Just three steps to solve a 2D problem.
1. Plan.
2. Do.
3. Finish with a flourish.
Kidding.
1. Summation of moment = 0
2. Summation of forces = 0
3. Use triangles to resolve everything else.
Remember, if the first two steps is wrong, then 3 would be wrong too. You will waste a lot of time doing 3 anyway. And the first two occupies relatively little time. Take the time to do first 2 well.
Note on zero members. I still don't know which one's which. =p Just use common sense, or experience. May the force be with you.

My life's getting interesting!
Lap 33, and these are the interesting things that happened today.
-It started raining 10 minutes before my first tutorial, and at that moment I was at the PGPR bus stop. The bus came shortly after, and I boarded the bus. There was a girl, wearing little cloth (imagine brown tube and white skirt), quite a bit of makeup, (well, my skills in description is lousy) boarded the bus as well. I fell asleep on the bus. By the time I woke up, it's the Yusof Ishak House and I was one minute late. Alighted at Central Library bus stop to super pouring. While other ladies waited to share umbrella with people who happen to have umbrella, this girl ran down the road (in the pouring rain, and it's a long way to the Arts Lecture Theater down the road). Confirm drenched very badly. Everyone at the bus stop goes, 'Woh!' but sadly no one clapped to her bravery. I ran across and drenched myself (if a girl can do it, why can't I?), but quite lucky I kept my bag from getting too wet.
-I was 15 minutes late. Reached Level 6 of the E1, my tutorial venue. Only four more rooms to go. In the first room there was graduate students having their lessons but the door was somehow open. Guess what I heard while walking past? "What kind of protest was that? There was no noise, no bla bla bla.......... (a long list of something I cannot remember), no violence, no nothing. It's not even a protest, it's like sex without penetration." Well, since Singapore government won't allow any protest more than that, that is the best they could do anyway. But how true.
-I walked into the class and everyone said, 'Woh!'. Oops, should have dried myself a little before entering class, but I was late, so getting there asap is the key!
Currently mugging for EG1413, and cannot get the trusses actually. Well, couldn't come out with a set of universal rules that can apply for all question when that should be possible. Maybe it was a mistake not to have a textbook. Current working rules:- (but not enough to solve) (I am not even sure if it's correct, so don't copy them)
-It's not a rigid body for nothing. Use our good old JC free body diagram. (The one with a circle as the free body and all the forces sticking out) It works.
-Moments are taken with PERPENDICULAR distance, regardless of the geometry or shape of the body.
Need more soon! Very soon! Currently 14 hours more to the scare of the week.

Prison vs. Work
From an e-mail from Russell.
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this should make things a bit clearer.
@ PRISON
You spend the majority of your time in a 10X10 cell
@WORK
You spend the majority of your time in an 8X8 cubicle
@ PRISON
You get three meals a day fully paid for
@ WORK
You get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it
@ PRISON
You get time off for good behavior
@ WORK
You get more work for good behavior
@ PRISON
The guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you
@ WORK
You must often carry a security card and open all the doors for yourself
@ PRISON
You can watch TV and play games
@ WORK
You could get fired for watching TV and playing games
@ PRISON
You get your own toilet
@ WORK
You have to share the toilet with some people who pee on the seat
@ PRISON
They allow your family and friends to visit
@ WORK
You aren't even supposed to speak to your family
@ PRISON
All expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required
@ WORK
You get to pay all your expenses to go to work, and they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners
@ PRISON
You spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out
@ WORK
You spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars
@ PRISON
You must deal with sadistic wardens
@ WORK
They are called managers
?
THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!!!!
Now get back to work. You're not getting paid to read emails.

Lion King!
Which Backstreet Boy's gay?
This is the original James Blunt - You're beautiful video. Notice the sequence of things happening here. If this is the first time you are watching the video, you will wonder what he's doing.
MadTV Parody of James Blunt - You're Beautiful. Pay attention to the lyrics!
A letter from a Sardar's mother to her son....
My dear Lotta,
I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a well there. I'm writing
this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast. We don't live
where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that
most accidents happen within 20 miles from home, so we moved 25 miles
away and are safe now.
I won't be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed
here took the house numbers with him for his new house so he would not
have to change his address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to
take our earlier address plate here, and that our address will remain
same too.
This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right
above the toilet I'm not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3
shirts, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since.
The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The
first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days.
The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a
little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we
cut them off and put them in the pocket.
Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the
grass at the cemetery.
Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a
girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle.
Your uncle, Beppo Singh fell in! the nearby well. Some men tried to pull
him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned. We cremated him and
he burned for three days.
Your best friend, Genda Singh, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his
father's last wishes. His father had wished to be buried in the sea
after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a
grave for his father.
There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.
Love Mom.
P.S : Lotta, I was going to send you some money but by the time I
realized, I had already posted off this letter.

Got it on e-mail quite a while ago, but I saw it again during lesson today, so decided to post again.
More interesting things that happened today:-
-The A2 I rode went in A1 direction. The bus driver changed the sign to A2 and then proceed to drive the bus in the A1 direction. To us now, it's quite a natural thing, but if you are new, think you will be so super confused!
-I finally know why there are JC students now and then. It's their H3 subject. Gone are the days of the S' papers.

p = mv (momentum = mass x velocity)
Suddenly feel the need to write to write, to destress a little, as I suspect that I am breaking. I am going to exceed my safety factor soon. Either my body, or my mind could not take it anymore. I don't want to get detached with thinking about other worldly issues and writing at the same time. My mind is a mess at it is now. Spending more time on studies are not that productive, but at this point of time, spending more time is the best solution. Little work done is still work done. Even now when I want to write, my thoughts whirl around me that I cannot even think coherently.
Weather's have been hot lately. I am constantly praying for rain, for rain is my thinking days, and everything seems just nice when it rains. Even in a country with precipitation exceeding 2000mm, I don't see rain everyday. I sweat in my sleep every night. The wonderful thing is, I don't sweat before or after, but during the sleep. Two theory's have been proposed so far. My new way of arranging my furniture since last Sunday could be the key. While I have cut down on the amount of dust entering my room and table, I also got myself a place where sitting down is not strenous on my legs. However, it is strenous on my back, and the air flow in my room went haywire. The other one could be the fan's getting real dusty. I realized a shift in air flow from the fan, and it is directed towards only a side of my room. I am constantly moving my bed so that I would get the maximum air flow to me when I sleep but then again, maybe the best thing to do instead is to clean the fan. (Best of the best would be to invest in a table fan or standing fan where I can adjust the direction freely. Until then, it's time to think of a new design for my room. Anyway, that's what engineers do, they design stuffs to work for us.
Gaining momentum over the past few days, probably because the thought of having two tests in a week gave my mind a boost subconciously. Realized the timeframe to which I work best, is from 3-6, where I am almost sure that everyone's asleep. 3a.m. would be the normal extreme sleep time for people, so you won't be seeing people on the opposite block awake unless (1) they are Indian (2) they are trying to do the same thing as me (3) they just plainly got imsomnia, probably from phobia of school. Even the most hardworking of bookworms die by 3a.m.. That's when I subconciously work hard. I mean during the point when I am doing the work, I may feel that it's counter-productive, but thinking back on the hours spent there, it would be the most productive. Think I may have a mental disorder, since I cannot fall asleep before everyone falls asleep. Which is probably why moving into PGPR is the best choice so far. Having this freedom to sleep whenever I wanted probably gave me the strength to persevere for so far. I feel that this few weeks have been well spent.
However, it is funny how momentum is so easily lost. Inertia gained should push me at least a lot further if I gained the amount of momentum in the first place. Sometimes, I become productive for a while and all it takes to kill it is a message tone from the messenger. My neighbour's subwoofer made that sound pass through walls and it's driving me crazy. Sometimes, it is my own. Sometimes, suddenly feeling a need to do something kills it, like suddenly feeling hungry, suddenly remember you have to do laundry and the worse discourager of all, knowing full well that you still have a lot to do and by the time you have the time for them, more new ones come. But you know you have to do it anyway, to break the vicious cycle. Of course, you can give up, which I thought once in a while, but realize that's the devil working in an idle mind. On top of that, I am Wai Hong. I am me. How can I give up so easily?

One of the lines of an e-mail to me read, "Keep only cheerful friends. Those grouches pull you down. (Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches)". While I cannot say for sure that this is true, but I can relate to that quite well. If you think I am a grouchy person, drop me. I am probably not worth your time and listening ear. Besides, I may pull you down, emotionally and probably academically. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for me to realize, that Angel is a grouchy person, and not to others, but only to me. If you read her blog from Day 1 you will know what I mean. Give me a break before I break. It's funny how every time I try to be nice, it would turn into a higher level of expectation. Like all graphs, there is a limit, and mine is not infinity. More funny, it's is hard to say goodbye, even on the messenger. I just have to put it straight from now on. I am probably affected. The happy-go-lucky old me is a little grouchy lately.
Yet another interesting line that I can relate well with. "The tears happen. Endure, grieve and move on. The only person who is with us the entire life, is yourself. LIVE while you are still alive." Why do people depend on each other? In the end, they are all alone. Of course, it would be nice if someone could offer a listening ear, but don't expect that. At least not all the time. You have to talk to yourself sometimes. Ask yourself questions and answer them. Do some quiet thinking once in a while, helps you keep in touch with yourself. This keeps you away from identity crisis, namely the 'I don't know who I am anymore' crisis. Surely, sometimes you might have asked yourself. "Who am I?" My answer is always simple and straight to the point. I am a nobody. And if all else fails, there is the best answer of all, 'I don't know'. If you say 'I don't know' to an issue, then you should not even worry about it. Thinking more is thinking too much. OF course, I don't mean academic issues, but psychological issues like 'Did the egg or the chicken come first?'.
We are all going to hell. Why? Because in every religion, there is a certain way for you to go to heaven, and the religion will tell you that it is only through that religion that you will gain it. Wait, that means you just shunned many other religions to join one. Maybe to this religion, you are eligible to heaven, but by not joining all the other religions, you are entitled to hell for everyone of them. There are more negative than positive, so technically, everyone is going to hell. Say this and say it out loud, "I don't care, I am already in hell.". Joking. Then to impede your way to heaven, most religions say that you should not be an advocate to another religion. Every religion claims that their God is the one true God, and denounce the others. Everyone chooses what they want to believe in, but one thing I believe, is that if there is a true god who is loving and sides with the good, he/she does not discriminate. It is something we shouldn't worry about. Just keep on doing what you have been doing.
Right or wrong. Absolute. In a world where everyone choose to believe what they believe in, we can argue forever about things, and I don't worry about them, because I have my own ideas and tendencies to slant towards a certain idea or sit on the fence but I wouldn't impose them on you. You are different from me. What is right? What is wrong? What is good? What is bad? We are all good as compared to the devil and bad as compared to angel. Relative. EG1413 teaches you to win arguments by tearing down your opponent's argument, and not by making stronger arguments. By always falling back on hard-facts that can always prove right and exclude emotions, you are focusing on defence. I believe emotion is an integral part of writing. A good piece of writing should be full of emotions, so much so that the reader could feel it while reading. It is harder to inculcate emotions in writing than to exclude them. The only danger is to not let yourself blinded by emotions, because your writings shows. It becomes an empty piece of writing, much like an emotionless piece. I can probably guess what you are going to write. Show them the full picture, make them feel only after reading to the last word. For my last words of this paragraph, pain and suffering is relative.
Lastly, back to p = mv. I think I could probably see why momentum is lost so easily and gained so hard. I have a small mass. And when I say mass in the last sentence, I mean brain mass. And when I say brain mass, I know we all roughly have the same or equal, but the contents inside is what counts towards my 'brain mass' count. Besides, inertia depends on mass too.

Weeks after weeks pounding on me
I enter every week thinking, this week couldn't be worse than the last, and was proven wrong 4 times in a row, and am expecting to be proven wrong a sixth time, before my thinking would hold true. I am 2 weeks from a full week's worth of break!
Though I am only halfway through my week 5, I must say that I have been on target so far, after burning midnight oil all the way until the sun comes out, and am very proud of it. Feels as if I have overtaken a lot of people, instead of behind, I think I am now actually ahead. However, this is still no time to relax yet. There is two mid-term test this week, a lab report with contributes at least 5% of my total for CM1502 and another mid-term test next week.

I practically spent the whole of Lap 28 thinking on EG1109 IMPARO Tutorial 2. Guess it was not that I was stupid, but I was a complete newbie to this. I need to be shown the way. Finally, at around 2a.m., I gave up, and pressed the hint. The hints are so detailed, they can be practically answers. My job is to learn from them, look at the way they solved the questions. Then apply my own numericals into the working and voila, the answer. Finished all the four questions to which I was stuck in the mere span of 2 hours. That's good!
Slept at 4a.m., actually woke to both my alarm clocks set 15 minutes apart on Lap 29, but was too tired to wake. So I ended up continueing to sleep, skipping 3 hours worth of lectures in total. Now hopefully I can catch up with them. In the end only went to CM1502 lecture and we were discussing questions. It was good. Was actually tired but went out to see Valerie for one last time this year anyway. I was pounded with numerous bad luck, first, I missed the bus. Next, when I was there at Science, Angela was not there yet, so I have to wait a little while. After finally getting the lab coat, my bus didn't come for another 20 minutes, a complete waste of my time. Should have walked even though it was peak hour. Then after that, the bus got stuck because it's rush hour at South Bouna Vista road.
Finally reached my room around 7p.m., when lectures ended at 6. Still need to go out in the rush hour. By now, figured I was probably going to get some more bad luck. Forgot to bring ez-link card, because I have lent mine to Angel earlier. Walked back to get it. Then walking halfway, thinking what would happen if there is no money inside? By now, I have walked home once, didn't have the heart to walk home again to get the coins. Ok. Walked out the back gate. Dashed for the 143. My tertiary ez-link card showed error. The bus driver confiscated my card and says my card have been blacklisted. Oops, that shouldn't have happened if I stayed in. Never mind, now I don't have coins to pay too. I alighted, and knowing that next 143 is going to take forever to come. Currently too angry with the lousy ez-link system. Time to write to the Straits Time.
Fine, took taxi there. Blew $10. Well, was very hungry, but kept my stomach empty for the sushi buffet anyway. Reached there, oops, no buffet. Have to go Causeway Point. Saw Valerie for something like 5 minutes only and I though she was joining us for dinner. Haha. Took another taxi to Causeway Point. Woh, NUS students can get student's price still. $15.90 for dinner buffet at Sakae before double plus. (15% in total) So hungry, attacked everything that I like or looked nice. Angel was just taking food for others to try or something. In the end, probably ate 15-16 plates of sushi. No food wasted, and the mochi ice-cream was nice! Think sushi take very long to digest, because after eating until so full, I have gone without food for around 28 hours before finally feeling a little hungry. I mean, usually even after you eat until super full, after a certain amount of time (like 12 hours) you will feel hungry again. Concluded sushi buffet is good for you, because it took care of the next three meals, and it kept me happy. Not to mention, it is healthy, the secret of the Japanese longetivity.
Went home, went on doing the lab report, and expected to sleep latest by 1.30a.m.. Kept on doing anyway, but by the time 3a.m. came, decided not to sleep anymore. It was a good choice, a choice I didn't regret. Started my Lap 30 without sleep, and 2 cans of coffee. At first I was really hyper, but it didn't last through to the end of Chemistry lab. Almost dead after that. Did my summary during MLE1101 lecture and fell asleep immediately. Now everyone's wondering why I am sleeping all the time and why I skipped my morning EG1413 Tutorial. Was hard to find an empty table during lunchtime, but I found one anyway, near Central Library. Slept for 40 minutes, and by that time would be the only sleep I would have in 24 hours period. Walked to the tutorial venue. Whee, saw the Malaysian basketball girl who live in PGP. Closed my eyes for a while to rest, and when I opened it, my dream girl walked past me. Haven't seen her in a while so it was rather pleasant, and it woke me up definitely. I wasn't sleepy though I had little sleep for a long time. The question is then, what was she doing here, so deep into the Engineering Faculty?
Spoke to my English tutor for a while before heading into class. Today's class was boring, because they did class discussion. And our topic have already been decided for us. Guess that saved a round of discussion. Well the topic would be Singapore 2020: Utopia or Dystopia? Not very exciting. I went into my own world. Thinking on my own. What's interesting about 2020? What do you think Singapore would look like in 2020? (And I am not talking about landmarks and infrastructures) What do you think Singapore would look like in 2020 5 years ago? What do you think Singapore would look like in 2020 10 years ago? Then what do you think Singapore would look in 2030? From now till 2020, there are still 14 years more to do. 14 years ago, how did you think 2006 would look like and is it like what you have thought it would look like? Were you happy or disappointed that it turned out the way it is now. Was it better or worse than expected?
What's interesting is the time lapse. As we grow, we tend to get more realistic, and less idealistic. We tend to fall back on older, proven methods of getting something to work rather than some new creative methods, which also mean it is harder for us to learn a new thing. If you always go home the same way you went to work, you will never get lost, but that does mean you will never learn a new way. I don't want to grow.

End of Week 4 - Lap 27
Lately, I like to start my post with my goals and targets immediately ahead of me, for it helped me focus. The rest of the post can come after, for most of the time I think I wouldn't be able to finish unless I really devote all my time to.
Many people tell me they thought school just started, but soon they will have mid-term tests. It just started if you think about it. Not even a month yet. Yet, we have mid-term tests coming really soon, so soon that it begins to go uncomfortable. I am rather blur about it still, but think I should compile all information about them soon. For now, I would just post as much information as I can gather.
EG1109 Quiz 1 - 16 September, Saturday, LT7A, 10a.m. - 11a.m. (This is extremely bad news for me. My current weakest module, in slightly less than 7 days)
2 compulsory questions.
Module mode of assessment:-
2 quizzes (Open-book, 20%)
e-Tutorials (12%)
iB-Tutorials (Submit your best answer for each iB-tutorial; 5%)
e-Beam experiment (8%)
2 hr Open-book final exam (55%)
Open book is a good clue to me that they are not going to ask definition type questions.
Good news to some is at the bottom of the announcement, quoted directly:-
There will be no make-up Quiz. If you are absent and has a valid reason that is approved by your lecturer, then you will not be penalized. You will then be assessed based on Quiz 2 only.
EG1413 has no mid-term test as far as I am concerned, but I need to write my first critique, due on 18th of September. It is as good as a mid-term test, because it constitutes 21% of the final grade.
Module mode of assessment:-
Assignment 1 (Critique, individual; 750-800 words, 21%)
Assignment 2 (Position paper, team; 1500-1800 words, 21%)
Oral defence (Oral defence of team's position paper, individual; 9%)
Class participation (Attendance & contribution to discussions and group work; 9%)
Exam (2 hours, critique, individual; 750 words, 40%)
MA1505 mid-term test - 2 October, Monday, venue and time differs
For me, it's MPSH 1, 7.30p.m. - 8.30p.m. (have to sit strictly according to a seating plan)
True for everyone whose Matric nos. fall in the following region, U066505B to U067768A
Module mode of assessment:- (short and simple)
Mid-term test (20%)
Final examination (80%)
Ok. Blogger just did it again, I wrote a lot a lot more and it went disappear just like that because the page auto-refreshed. And I lost the rest of my post! The recover post button just recover up to here. While this definitely made me a little angry, I shall be patient and not let this small thing make my words in the rest of the post sound rather angry. I shall be patient and type what I have just typed again.
MLE1101 is the mysterious one. No forums, nothing is posted on the module page. There is not even a mode of assessment posted anywhere. Not only that, the announcements tend to come late, so it usually give you too little time to react to the announcements.
PC1431 mid-term test is on 7 October, Saturday, though nothing more is known beyond that.
CM1502 does have a mid term test but then I was half-asleep during the lecture so I did not take it down. Maybe it will be soon. The only clue I have of it is that it is going to be open book. =)
Current status:- (Tutorials tutorials)
Overdue (extremely extremely urgent!):-

CM1502 Tutorial 1 (a little blur still)
MA1505 Tutorial 2 (went to tutorial lesson without attempting questions first)
Extremely urgent (must get them out of the way before I can mug for EG1109 mid-term test in peace):-
EG1109 IMPARO Tutorial 2
EG1109 IMPARO Tutorial 3
EG1109 Tutorial 2
EG1109 fill in the blanks of the book I have just bought
CM1502 next experiment pre-lab report
EG1413 preparations for tutorial 7 and 8
MA1505 Tutorial 3
PC1431 Mastering Physics Tutorial 3
Setting my goals for tonight and tomorrow is over. Now we shall get back to what adventourous things that I have done in the past few days of week 4. Everytime the weekend comes, I am rather sad, because it does mean that a week is already over, hence the name week-end.
Lap 22, Monday, woke up in time and not late for my 10a.m. lecture. Not bad actually, could pay attention in most lectures for a while before switching off. Think I was worried about the EG1109 Tutorial 1 Question 3 of which the deadline was that day. Went to find him for a while during my break for more hints, but yet I still could not solve the question. After spending the whole day, the clock finally struck 6, and the deadline is over. Though I did not hand in the solution in the end, I felt at peace with myself because the past few days have been spent fruitfully thinking on it. Experience is all I need. Suddenly, the stress came off me, and I feel that I had the time to smell the roses again. Took a slow walk home, and then caught a bus at centra library. Things just cannot go too wrong. The bus was already there when I was there and it was not too crowded.
I was actually in good mood, talking to a friend that I have just made. Everything seems straight again. The bus driver was drunk or something, though there was nothing wrong with his driving. He forgot to close the back door after the stop at outside UCC. The girls at the back were a little uneasy already, commenting on how dangerous it was. However, no one said anything, and the wind was good, so we just let it be. Then at the stop opposite University Hall, a lot of people boarded and a lot were alighting. There were 4 more girls who were trying to alight from the back door, and the bus started moving, with the back door wide open. The girls hesitated a little, looked front, but the front was so crowded, so I guess they won't get the bus driver's attention. As they hesitate, the bus accelerates, but one girl decided she could still get down in time. She jumped off the bus, but think the impact on her feet was too hard or something, she fell down, and rolled a few rounds, before passerbys helped her up. The whole back row (including me) and some other passengers at the back stood up, by impulse, because I didn't even know I stood up, before I found that I have to sit back down again. It was interesting, because it was like uncontrolled, that after we stood up and look back, we all suddenly looked forward to see who was the 'kena sai' bus driver.
Our sudden 'jerk' to stand up probably caught the bus driver's attention. The door closed shortly after. I think the three other girls who were wanting to alight at the stop decided against it after they saw the girl who fell down badly. In the end, they alighted at the next stop, the stop opposite LT27. The seat next to me is now empty, but a lot of people came up onto the bus. What a coincidence, my EG1109 tutor took the seat next to me. The first thing he asked me when he saw me was, "So how? Did you manage to hand-up your homework?". Of course I didn't, I didn't even know how to do it. He gave me some more clue, but guess I was mentally tired at that particular question. Decided to take a break, and come back when I have the time. It is not like there are no other work waiting for me to complete. Talk a little more to him, he was actually in his last semester before he would get his Ph. D. Woh! And he lives in PGPR too! =)
I consider the EG1109 settled, because the next day I have another deadline to meet. The lab report for CM1502. I did not start on it before because I was spending time with the EG1109 question. Guess it was just tough luck for me because I have to submit a difficult question. Some other people got it easy, and they only had to submit question 2. Determined to write the best lab report that will put all my competitors to shame, I decided to whack the textbooks. Relearnt a little about solubility products. Perhaps I was mentally tired, I couldn't churn out the report even though it was near morning already. Decided to write my intorduction and body paragraphs for my EG1413 tutorial instead. By the time I finished, it was 6.30a.m., just nice the time for me to wake up. For once, I was early for an 8a.m. tutorial. =)
The tutorial was still ok, after a can of coffee, but the rest of the day was gone. After the tutorial, I went with Xiang Yang to a quiet corner on level 4 to do a little work, but I fell asleep instead. The sleep was amazingly good, even though it was on hard wooden bench. Think it was good for my posture as well, as I fell asleep with my face facing up. I was dead tired. Xiang Yang woke me up for lecture, and we went. Sat beside him, and slept throughout lectures again. Too tired to continue. Sleep sleep sleep. Followed by Physics lecture, which puts me to sleep even when I am not tired. Slept some more. Came home tired. Slept all the way till 10p.m.. My Lap 23 seemed short. Woke up and sent out verbal diarrhoea e-mail to my English tutor. I just wanted rest. Spent the night doing other work. Couldn't get myself to do MLE1101 tutorial, so I just went on to try the IMPARO thingy. Spent whole night again, and couldn't do a question at all out of five. Oops, my weakest module, what should I do? And to think there would be a mid-term test in 6 days.
Lap 24 was too short. Nothing much interesting too. Practically spent all the time doing different tutorials again. I was trying the PC1431 tutorial the whole night then, and thanks to Chong-U's help I managed to conquer question one. The rest seemed difficult, probably because of my lack of practice. When I finally got the answers the next day, it was like, "Duh!".
Lap 25, a hectic day since all my tutorials fall on even week. Have to pass the lab coat back to Angela as well, so even though I was early for my CM1502 tutorial, I have to take the time to run to Science, pass to her, and run back to Engineering, and be 20 minutes late for the CM1502 tutorial. It was nothing much, since I do not understand half the stuffs discussed anyway. What happened to all my 'S' Papers knowledge? That was only 1 o' clock, and to think that after an hour break, I have lessons all the way till 6 just breaks me, because I did not have enough sleep again. Couldn't push myself to do too much tutorial at night, but I accomplished quite a bit. I caught up with a few Maths lectures in a row. There was one lecture to which I fell asleep like 15 minutes into the lecture and then I woke up when the lecturer said, "Ok, you all can go now". Seems like it's real life. The wonders of Webcast lecture. I slide the slider back to start and watched it again. =) This time I am more awake, so good luck putting me to sleep.
My neighbour just bought a new set of sub-woofer! When I was halfway through one of my lectures, I could suddenly heard loud 'BOOM's from probably a good quality sub-woofer. Oops, how am I going to survive? Luckily my neighbour's neighbour on the other side took went to bang on his door and ask him to lower his volume twice. =) I could continue. Well, after three lectures, I still have yet to reach the lecture to which the rule that I needed for tutorial 2 is demonstrated. Too tired, and late, so I decided to sleep. Oops, my place is really in a mess, so sorry Michael if you plan to visit. Can't seem to find the time to clean up lately. It's really unhabitable soon. Sometimes, my feet get dusty walking around the room. Maybe on Sunday if I have the free time. I realized living at a high level is rather dusty. I used to open my blinds all the time but I am amazed by the amount of dust. I close my blinds lately to prevent lots of dust from coming into my room, since I don't have the time to clean my room yet. Maybe when I finally get the time to clean my room, I will once again, open to view my Balamb Garden.
Lap 26, finally the stress got off me a little. It was a rather short day, even though I was just being blur at the Maths lesson. It did not seem to be difficult since most of my classmates could do the questions. All I need now is to catch up till that part in the lectures. Then after that was Chemistry lectures. I was out of the ordinary, because, a lot of people decided to not go for his lecture. It was so bad that he called out 8 persons in a row and none of them turned up. The best part was, when the ninth person was called, she asked the lecturer what was the question, and the lecturer himself forgot, because he was probably too excited that he finally hit someone. Went back and decided it should be my day off. I shall not do anything strenous or mentally strenous. Come to think of it, I put off opening my new wife for almost a week now. It is time that she see some daylight.
It's a Dell 640m. From the looks of the packing list, and checking on website, it probably costs around RM2.4k, or less. Noneoftheless, it is a moment of history because it would be my first ever personal laptop. Being a desktop supporter for so many years because of customizability, I finally own a laptop, for it's portability. I probably have to move my stuffs out and in every semester so having to lug a desktop every semester wasn't exactly what I would imagine to be very fun. With the new technologies being so advanced, I believed the era of desktops have come to an end. First, my homepage was set to dell.com.my, so I walked around looking for my model, and see what they have to advertise about it. The most expensive model have the price tag RM3.4k but if you order online, you get RM800 off. Wow, my model have been advertised as being 2.4kg, having a shock absorber for hard disk drive, and the look is not really that bad. It's rather cute to have white plastics at the side. The 'Dell' logo call easily be mistaken for a 'Apple' logo from afar, and think if I really use MacOS skin for my Windows, it could easily fool some people.
I am not a supporter of Dell or Compaq ever since long ago, but I have not have problems with them lately. Their bad names were earned circa 98, because during the times of Windows 98, their computers keep hanging. Think there might be a hardware conflict in most or they just load their computers with too many background programs that the processors at that point of time could not handle. Now with the invention of Dual Core and HyperThreading, this shouldn't be a problem anymore. I found mine rather stable, and so far, I couldn't get my processor to run at full speed yet. Mine is a Core Duo T2050! It is the slowest and the most economic processor from the family, but I will take it as a blessing in disguise. Slowest speed means the least heat generated! It has been rather cool and quiet so far, and the absence of an external video card just made sure the heat couldn't go too high. No doubt, it's still the Yonah core, with maximum power draw of 31W and so far, I couldn't even manage to push it there after setting all my settings to maximum. Battery life is advertised as 8hours plus for the 9 cell battery, and that's a lot more compared to most other models just one generation before mine. They could at most manage 2-3 hours.
My graphics card is an onboard 945M Intel Graphics. And 945M is isn't even the graphics chip name. It's actually the motherboard chipset. Couldn't be bothered to do research about it, but it only have 8Mb of video memory, means no games for me, probably another blessing in disguise. Even my Matrox Dual-Head had 128MB. So far no complain with graphics, since I did not install any games. On board graphics and being so weak just means that there are more battery life! More to my happiness, I finally have the latest of SATA technology. And 1 gig of RAM is something that I have been dreaming for a few years now, ever since I had Windows XP. That would be around 4 years, and I finally got it. I was really happy. Finally I don't have to be a processes cop anymore.
My desktop only have 20 background processes because I constantly monitor and disable optional processes. That ensured it boot in 15 seconds, or else it could be a minute or more. This one did boot within 15 seconds even after having 60+ background processes. Now I don't bother disabling them, because I still have at least 500Mb of RAM to spare at all time, and have spare processing power. Only one process disturbs me though, the Dell Network Assistant, which actively detects problems with network connection and repairs it. It eats up around 15%-20% of processor power most of the time, and that can be bad to the battery life. Disabling it brings my processor usage to around 1%-5%, the acceptable idle level. Even now when I am blogging, it uses only that much power. Now that's really good for battery life!
More things that I was actually quite happy about my new wife. Her speakers isn't so bad, though it's not branded ones like Harman Kardon or Altec Lansing. I love the buttons at the front. I could play music at the mere press of one of those buttons. Technically, it works like a discman, and I could play music and songs and playlists without even having to open laptop LCD screen. They shine with a bright blue light when pressed, quite cool. I actually like the Dell keyboard. I mean the last time I really used a Dell keyboard in the computer labs of ACS(I), I fell in love with them too. Very little keyboards fall into the category of my favourite keyboards. I usually test the keys sound and the feel of pressing them before buying one. That's how I ended up with my Samsung keyboard, but now comparing the two of them, this one is still a little better. The Dell keys are quieter, so much so I can really enjoy my music in peace even though I am typing. One bad thing though, is I have to get used to the new keyboard. The fingering is just different, a little more spaced out on the right hand and a little more cramped on the left.
Yay, multitasking is really done quite well on this one. No complains yet. McAfee run silently and does not interfere with my work at all. I don't feel that any processor power is being drained at all. Furthermore, there is no wind coming out from the ventilation holes, suggesting this thing might be passively cooled. I actually went around to touch everypart of it to see which part runs hot after a long while, and I couldn't identify any. Widescreen some more! Whee. More desktop space = more workspace = more multitasking = more work done? Merom and Conroe are not in the market yet, and first benchmarks suggests that they are only 12% more efficient than my Yonah. Still enjoying my wide workspace now. It just gives me more incentive to do more work. LCD screen, no more radiation to my eyes, and not to mention, I like the colours. And the Discman like function, playing music made easy. Wow! This gets really exciting.

Pushing the rest of the stuffs to tomorrow. (Procrastinating again, and it piles up)
Dover Barber is still there. He thought I was an Indonesian and currently studying in ACS(I) because of the shirt I was wearing. Had a nice chat. He charged me student rate even though he knew I was from NUS in the end. Dover is a place where I wouldn't feel a little awkward wearing all my AC shirts. A lot of people wears them, so it's normal for the people around there. Chose the wrong time to go back to visit. AC Boarding was extremely quiet, almost haunted. Holidays have just started for them! Well, that's probably all for today. Still pondering the stupid and stupid question 3 from tutorial 1. And I haven't even done laundry yet.

Charge!!!
Tired. Tired. Tired. Tired. Tired. Started the day extremely tired. Set my alarm clock to 6.45a.m. the night before. Jumped up from bed knowing I was late, I checked the phone clock and it shows 9.37a.m.. (It's 10 minutes fast by the way) Dang, the plan was to meet up at Clementi at 8.00a.m.. Rushed out. Reached the 183 bus stop, but as usual it was a long wait. Suddenly I got a call from a private number, and turns out my dad was at my room already.
Whee. Whee. Whee. Still tired. Went back to room. Turned out it was really my charger that what spoilt. My sexy little babe came back to life, after I plugged my sister's charger in. Whee, there's light. Whee, I can switch it on! Whee, I am going to use it for a long time more! There isn't much time. We rushed out, trying to do everything at the Student's Services Centre, but it was closed. Checked it on the internet the night before already but decided to go there and give it a shot anyway. Then, realized the only government department I know that works on a Saturday is the ICA. Rushed there. 12.40p.m., and it closes at 1. Went to the general enquiry counter, and asked where we can find a witness or notary public. She said supreme court, and it closes at 1. Only 2 MRT stops away, we rushed there. 12.50p.m., but I can't remember where is the supreme court under stress, since the last time I was there would be the SIF tour I took when I first came to Singapore. Vaguely remember the building as well.
Went to approach a stranger, the stranger knew exactly where the supreme court and knew our problems and how to solve it. Straightaway suggested alternatives, but unfortunately none of them will work since we had the problem at an interesting hour. He brought us to the law society, which I didn't even know exists there, then we found out that he is a lawyer, but he was not a notary public. He was not a commisioner of oaths as well. He brought us to his office where he found one of his friends who may be acting as a notary public and may be working late. Called twice, but the number is unreachable. Besides, finding a lawyer now means the cost will be elevated some more.
Decided to abandon the cause. Walked around and sat at one of the food stalls there. Maybe my standard in tasting food have dropped. My father asked me whether the wantan mee tasted nice. I said not bad, since it was nice in it's own way, and rather plainish nice. My father tried a mouth and said it's quite bad. Come to think of it, it's true. It's almost too plain. Almost tasteless. If no one ever told me about it, I wouldn't even realize, and would have finished the bowl of wantan mee happily. Well, I finished it and my sister's bowl happily after that. My father also said that my walking speed have decreased. How am I going to be as energetic as my father? And wonder why my average walking speed have dropped.
Walking around, and just trying different things to eat. Nothing much to shop about. Went to Funan and Bugis, but things at Funan does not appeal much, since I am virtually wantless. Bugis was so crowded, we could hardly walk. Realized today shopping was not quite interesting, maybe because I just shopped the night before. Seems like I have seen everything at least once, but nevertheless, it was fun because there is life outside my room that I never knew. More eating, then to Jurong Point, and more eating. The journey there was the turning point for the day. Everyone had a quite sleep, or a power nap. Woke up in Boon Lay MRT totally refreshed, and full of energy. Still quite full anyway, but ate more. Piggy today. Nothing much to see in Jurong Point as well, and it was quite crowded so not much fun there.
Finally back to Clementi, and back home. Maybe because I ate a lot today. I was very full with energy. Saw people on the courts, and they were all very fun people. Ran up, and then get changed into my favourite shirt, and ran back down again. Didn't feel quite right because my tummy was full with food. Nevertheless, played to the best of my ability. None of the part of my body ached after the match, other than my knee, because it's skinned when I fell down. Hopefully they don't hurt when I wake tomorrow too. The energy just keeps coming, but in the end we were pounded. Think 10-0 or something like that. Powerful Malaysian centre. Kept getting faked, because he fake a lot. Knew a little more people.
Why was I so full of energy? I don't really know. Maybe it was because I became less stressed since some of my problems were solved or solved itself. Maybe because I kept on eating, so there is a higher energy supply in the first place that I don't normally enjoy. After all, I over-ate the KFC the night before. Over-ate wantan mee lunch and then many many desserts. At night, took extra helping of rice too. Whee. Super. Maybe it was because there was fun people on the courts? Maybe I was just plain happy and in good mood? Or maybe I was just plain hyper. I hope this never ends.
Ok, bathed, and I am here now. Shall do tutorials or sleep. Get tomorrow planned first, so I can work towards it. Let's hope I have the energy to. Whee. Whee. Whee. (In order of priority too)

A race well ran
In the previous nights mind, I have decided to skip today's 8a.m. lecture already, because it is really not worth it to go for the lecture. You spend extra an hour travelling there (half an hour there and half an hour back) and you have to wake up extra early, and for me it's 6.30a.m., because I do my wash-up and preparations slow. I hate to rush, and always want to take my own sweet time in the morning. I feel that, once I rushed, the day is gone. I am going to be in a not so good mood, and ending up tired for the day's schedule.
Lap 19. Woke up 20 minutes later than intended, but that was not entirely a bad thing. Felt fresh, and reached my first tutorial only 5 minutes late. Since I finished all my tutorial's questions, I could understand all that the tutor is trying to say. Besides, the tutorial have the answers (though not full solutions) so that you can check if you got the correct answer. Once the answer tally, chances are low that there were something wrong with your working because it's differentiation, and hence if your working is wrong, your answer will look very different. Still could manage differentiation, so there was a little confidence boost for myself. Got hints from Michael for some more difficult questions, so I could solve all in the end. Though I spent a long time for tutorials, the satisfaction to know that you actually finish all the questions is great. I think as long as the time of your brain is spent on thinking on tutorial questions, it is time spent productively. Slowly but surely, I am going to catch up.
Met Stephanie (from JJC) on the bus, but it was too crowded, so I couldn't call her. She boarded the bus at the Faculty of Business and alighted at Temasek Hall. Called her on the number in my phone memory but the number was no longer in use. I have yet to reply her e-mail two days ago, so this might be a good chance for me to reply! =)
Still very awake after the tutorial. Rushed straight to my Chemistry lecture. Oops, the lecturer asked me question and I did not get the correct answer. Stupid part, I asked him the same question on the previous lecture. I shall not commit the same mistake twice. I shall drill in my head that for any adiabatic process, work done is actually the n (number of moles) x Cv (Molar heat capacity at standard bla bla bla...) x delta T (small change in temperature) (also known as T2 - T1). Must get it in my head. Adiabatic. No longer P x delta V. Think I embarassed myself much during the lecture, but were wide awake and were able to absorb everything taught today about entropy.
Made a new friend today. Liberty's her name. If her name wasn't interesting enough already, she grew up in Brunei, and spent most of her life there, but she originated from the Philippines. Another interesting thing, I said Happy Teacher's Day to my Chemistry lecturer, and he replied, "Same to you.". Does not make much sense to me really, but then again, there might be some profound meaning behind simple words. Trying to be nice again, so think maybe I should meet up with Angel for lunch. Well, it went on into meeting Valerie too.
Meeting Valerie is nice too, since the chances of even getting to see her is very small. She is hardly in the country! I know I still have lots of things to do but I think I needed a break as well. The tired effect from the first two days of the week have yet to be alleviated from a short pitstop day on Wednesday. Got some shopping theraphy, though mostly what I did was look at the stuffs on sale. Didn't even bother to look at the price tag. I know I wouldn't have any buying power at least for a long period of time to come. Sometimes, looking at people buying things too, could have destressing effect. Esther joined us for dinner, and we had a good laugh over dinner. Family feast was great! Especially since I cannot remember when was the last time I had KFC, and there were too much food in the end too. All good things come to an end. Did some more shopping, and it's 10p.m., so shops were closing. Time to go home.
Me: How do I go home from here?
(I really don't know what is the cheapest/fastest way to get home. It was 10.20 and I have to reach campus by 11 to take shuttle bus home. 143 is out of the way, as I did not scout in advance the bus stop needed. The only bus stops I am familiar with are the ones that I use while I was working there. I went on to take 14, and walk home from there)
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: I need to get home. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: I need to get home. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: I need to get home. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: I need to get home. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: I need to get home. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
Someone: Don't go home la.
Me: Why are you so irritating? (How else can I get my point across?) (am tired of nonsense too, since it has been 22+ hours in 2 days)
14 came quite fast, met my old Hall 8 friend, currently in J2. Turned out that this week is their first week after prelims, so everyone is tired. He hung out in Orchard for 2 days in a row already. Guess Dota is no longer the 'in' thing nowadays, and not many people I know play it anymore. Guess World of Warcraft is probably going to dominate the LAN gamers. One thing I don't like about online games; they are too balanced. No one race/weapon have a real advantage over the rest. Talked a lot, so the journey seemed short. Walked over to the bus stop at School of Computing and my clock shows 11.05p.m.. Hopeful, I waited a little more hoping that the last bus have yet to come round. Gave up at 11.20p.m., and started to embark on a slow walk home. No matter how slow I did it, I still broke a sweat. Going uncomfortable, so I have to bath longer.
I realized by being nice I am sometimes being taken advantage of. It is fine by me, but sometimes I feel that it gets really out of hand and too much. I should stop being nice. I should, but I couldn't bring myself too. Maybe it was my nature. However, there are certain things in life that you cannot stop trying. If crime become too overwhelming, that does not mean we give up fighting crime. Just because you broke a promise, does not mean you do not continue to try and uphold the promise. I am supposed to assume that everyone have common sense, because it is not called common sense for nothing.
Just because someone took advantage of you being nice, does not mean that you stop being nice.
Tired. 2.30a.m., and I still have to tidy up my room for my father's visit tomorrow. Still have much to do. So little time. Have yet to bath! And need to wake up at 6.30a.m. again.
Initial planning for the weekend.
Saturday:- (clear all mandatory and graded tutorials to best of ability, and get best grades)
-EG1109 tutorial 1 question 3
-CM1502 lab report
-Mastering Physics Tutorial 1
(Mandatory means by hook or by crook I must finish them, and at the same time, best of my ability because it's graded for my continual assessment.)
Sunday:- (clear all lectures, and start doing tutorials in advance)
-PC1431 Tutorial 1
-MA1505 lectures 2,3,4,5,6 webcast (watch them all)
-redo CM1502 Tutorial 1
And I really must comment on the past two days. It felt fresh. I was able to understand all lectures and tutorial and pay full attention. Really a battle well fought, and if I can see days coming like these, I am sure good grades are not very far off. I have a feeling I am starting to make a comeback run. Best of luck to myself.
Some similarities between these two quite good days. It has been raining lots the day before these two. Wednesday was raining lots, and so did Thursday. The weather was really nice, and it's nice to be in my room. I actually can start to feel cold at night these few days.
